I am currently in chemotherapy, and I have a question.

A few months ago, I ran out of my nausea medication on a weekend, and I paged my oncologist to get some more. I was really sick and throwing up, so I considered it an emergency to get more medication. He never called me

hey steph,

all of the docs i have to call from gp to pediatrician, to pdoc and tdoc all have messages on their voicemails that state if this is an emergency to hang up and dial 911. i know with my tdoc though, if i get her voice mail and leave a message, she will call me back asap.

i'm glad to hear that you called your oncologist on it though! he/she should not tell patients to page if there is no intention of answering it. that's b/s! i shall send some prayers and positive thoughts your way.

love & hugs,

You know, the doctor has a horrible bedside manner and is a little crass, but I just decided to pay a ton of money for insurance to keep him. (My job is changing plans January 1) He knows his stuff, and I am getting better. Despite his personality, I like him.

Being an oncologist would be really hard work. Many of

Sigh. I am afraid that some pdocs go into the profession because it is a branch of medicine that pays well and has relatively nice business hours. It is those types I have had problems with. I have indeed had problems with getting ahold of pdocs in case of emergency. I haven't even tried in years. These days, when there is an emergency, I go to the ER. I save that for when I am really in dire straits, because the psych er's in the city where I get treatment suck. The last few times I went I only went for extra meds.

Hey Steph!

First of all, Its really good to hear from you...and I'm so sorry you go through that with your docs!!!

My pdoc is the BEST! She calls me immediately sometimes after I leave a message with her nurse. Sometimes it might take a couple hours, but its ALWAYS the the same day...never more than that. She'll call ALL my numbers, home, work, cell, until she finds me...once she even called my dh to find me when I was in between work and home and my cell wouldn't pick up. She knows that I really need her when I call.

Hang in there, honey!

Love and Hugs,

Keli
