Church choir issues

Folks, I am in my church choir, which is a very skilled ensemble with a director who is a bit of a control freak. Two rehearsals ago, I left rehearsal without even singing, because I had a sore throat and didn't want to strain my cords. I didn't go to the service last Sunday because my bipolar started to give me problems and was making me tired. I missed another rehearsal this last Thursday because I was crying so much I didn't want to leave the apartment.
I am wondering, tomorrow, should I go to that director and say, "sorry, but I have been really ill, and could you still consider me for membership in the choir?"
I am just hoping he understands.

(((((((Beth)))))) I realize you have probably already been to church by now and I apologize for just now getting to this post. I hope, though, that you did explain to your director that you have been ill and that is why you haven't been to the practices and last week's service.
Bipolar is not something that we can flip on and off like a light switch.......although many of us wish it were that simple. When we have episodes it's no different than a person having a flare up of some other problem. Control freak or not, he should not punish you for being ill on either score.
So, let us know how it went. And, if you didn't say anything today, there's always the next day of practice or next week's service:) Music is your passion, I can see this in your posts and I KNOW how much that means to a person. Go for it! Don't let him stop you.
Love & Hugs,
Traci
Beth,
I'm not sure I'd even ask, just go in and apologize that you'd missed rehearsals/Sundays because you were ill
