Hi everyone. I lurk here a little and have posted a few times but I consider myself new. My name is Deb and I am a SAHM of 4 children ages 18 (in college) 7 (1st grade) 5 (kindergarten) and 3 y/o. I've been happily married for 5 years to my second hubby. I have bipolar type 2 and have been on meds for 3 years. I am in the process of changing my meds. I was taking Lamictal, Seroquel and Wellbutrin XL and now I am on Lamictal and Lithium. Today is the first day I have taken Lithium and am a little afraid of the side effects because I don't know what to expect. I am still being weined off of the Seroquel. Anyway, my point is not to give you my life history, lol. Thanks for reading.

Deb,

I've been on Lithium for about 3 years (all but about 6 months since I was dx'd), but also take Wellbutrin and Lexapro.

Thank you for your insight. I took my first tablet this morning and I am noticing a nasty taste in my mouth. Maybe I am just paranoid and my mind is working overtime, lol. I have heard about the increased urination and was told to drink plenty of water, which I have always done anyway. My hubby's uncle also takes Lithium and has said he experienced heavy sedative effects when he first took it. My pdoc has told me that the Seroquel I took was by far more sedative than Lithium. If I could handle 800mg of that I can handle this! My mania comes in the form of high aggravation, violent outbusts and obsessive behavior (my poor "lucky" hubby). I rapid cycle and the ups and downs were killing me. I just started getting SSD in April of this year. Sometimes that in itself is depressing. It's very hard to prove that sort of disability and mine went through the first time I applied. Makes me feel like a real nut case. On the upside I now feel like I can at least contribute that because before we were on assistance. My hubby's job doesn't pay all that well but he loves what he does. I'm hoping I will level out somewhat with the Lithium. Sheesh, I talk too much, lol.
