I do since starting to visit these boards and learning about grocery exile. Sometimes, life intervenes and I don't get a meal or two prepared, so the food builds up.
Since we meal plan we have less that doesn't get eaten, However of course there are times that meal doesn't get made. We then just put it on the following week. So I guess my answer is not really :)
"I hear,, "Hi honey, I've got some stuff to freeze"." -- LOL, that is too funny! My DH doesn't say that, but he brings home meat to freeze too!
Yes, I do work down my freezer stock before buying more. I need to do it again! I do major shopping every two weeks...meat usually once a month. I buy family pack sizes and separate, date and freeze. Sometimes if the local store has a sale then I will buy in between regular shopping trips--like today I bought two T-bone steaks to grill for supper, 1 package of babyback ribs and 1 small package of chicken legs--none of which I had in the freezer but requested by DH. I usually take inventory of the freezer before going shopping, so I know what I need to replenish...then rotate old to the front and new to the back!

I do that to avoid having old and spoiled meat to eat. My freezer only holds 1½ month worth of food.
Start with the oldest you have in there and cook that off and keep going.
I check dates on my spices twice every year and throw out the old ones.
