Hello Ladies!
Jodie is back. Ta dum! Just kidding. Hope everyone is doing as well as they can! My meds have made me quite stable lately.
I can't BELIEVE I am typing this but...I have a question for all those with kids. I just discovered I am pregnant. Yes...me! Six weeks 4 days along. I had NO IDEA I was pregnant until Monday so I was taking all those powerful bi-polar drugs the whole time. Like Xanax. Does anyone know what the effects might be? I am very worried. I am also bleeding a little bit but the doc isn't concerned yet. I saw the ultrasound and the fertility specialist pointed out the heartbeat. I am totally shocked. We were supposed to have surgery on Monday to find out why I wasn't getting pregnant. I was waay late with my period and the doc told me to take a pregnancy test during the pre-op exam which I declined. I told him there was NO WAY I could POSSIBLY be pregnant I was having NO symptoms. Boy was I wrong! Fortunately the insurance company denied the surgery (a laproscopy) so it was cancelled. Now I am worried that my not knowing may have harmed the baby. My pdoc's only concern was the Xanax. I was taking a rather high dosage of it. I was convinced I would never get pregnant on my own. I need all the advice I can get...if I don't miscarry that is.
Thanks!
Jodie

((((jodie)))) congratulations!!!! that's great news! i don't know, unfortunately, about the meds. i hope that all goes well though. i didn't realize that you were having such a difficult time w/ conceiving. but knowing that you can must be a huge relief for you:)
i wish you all the best with this. hopefully someone here can give you some input on the meds. i was on dilantin (anti-seizure) when i was pregnant with all three of mine. my doc warned me of the possibility of cleft pallate/cleft lip but all three came out beautiful - inside and out. but i wasn't on anything else 'cause i "wasn't" depressed or bipolar at the time (ha!). oh well.
sending tons of positive vibes your way.
love & hugs,
traci
Jodie,
Congrats!
One source just said Xanax could cause withdrawal, breathing problems and muscle weekness in infants. However another source specified that it could cause those problems along with body temperature issues and feeding difficulties only if taken by the mother in the last few months of pregnancy (can also cause similar problems when breastfeeding while on the med).
Oops just realized I had a double negative in my earlier post--this is one of the meds that does NOT cause problems when taken in the first trimester!
BTW--my initial source was a home version of the PDR and the primary source(s) were two from Medline
Congratulations, Jodie...
I've been thinking about you.
Many hugs and much love,
Keli
