Sharing Time, kids!!! :)
What is your favorite holiday (any of them!) song and/or traditon...or memory...or anything!!!

My favorite holiday song is an old Christmas carols...I love the old carols...
Silent Night...its so peaceful...and brings me joy. I haven't been listening to any music this season, DUH! Maybe why I haven't been in the spirit...
A memory I have is of me and my brother, he's 2 years younger than me...we were waiting in the car one Christmas Eve back in the 70s when my parents were in Kmart doing their shopping...my dad had gotten a bonus check...we didn't have much money back then...(now either!!!). ANyway, my brother and I were in the back seat and we were looking out the back window, at the stars in the sky, waiting to see Santa flying over...we did NOT take our eyes off the sky.
I miss that magic. I miss my brother, but I think I get to see him on Christmas.
:)
God could not be everywhere, so
See we don't do oysters down south...eeeewwwww...lol
We do ham, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, mashed potatoes, sweet potato stuff, dressing (not STUFFING) cakes, and pies, and green bean casserole, and corn and corn bread and biscuits...gravy...mmmmmm.
LOL, isn't that funny???
God could not be everywhere, so
Ok - I won't let you two have ALL the fun!
My favorite carol has GOT to be Carol Burnett....just kidding Definitely Good King Wenceslas (sp?). Love that song.
My favorite traditions are having Santa to the house every Xmas Eve. I met this guy through an old job I had, and he has been playing Santa since he was in his 20s (is in his LATE 50s now) and before that played Santa's Helper for his dad...so he has it down PAT. He shows up at my moms around 7pm (all the kids know that I am "friends" with Santa). He walks down her LONG driveway ('cause Santa doesn't have a car) and finds where we stashed some presents. He loads the gifts into his big red bag and comes in the house. Then he spends at LEAST 2 hours there. First, he takes each person (not just kids) onto his lap, talking to them about what is new with them, and things he has heard about. After everyone has talked to him, he goes through the presents in the bag, handing them out. He doesn't just give the present and move on. He waits while they open it, and then spends time looking at it with them. It is SO special. This "Santa" is the reason my 10-year-old daughter vehemently will argue with ANYONE that there really IS a Santa Clause. I love that she still has that magic.
My other favorite is the FOOD LOL Seeing Donna and Keli got us started on that :p While most people up here (at least that I know) do the whole big ham with fixings, we go in a different direction. We make "pigs in a blanket" (hotdogs wrapped in bread dough and baked for those unfamiliar), potato salad, baked beans, meatballs, veggie dip, and other snack foods (love the shrimps!!!). It is kind of fun to have all the "summer" foods in the middle of a frozen snowy wasteland
Ok people - I typed a book here - share your favorites too!!!!
Tracey
Tracey!!! You're here!!! OMG! lol
Well, since I'm absolutely starving to death...I love the food too...we don't have the traditional "lunch" either...we have breakfast at my mom's...we have pigs in the blanket too, but with sausages...we have this breakfast casserole thing, sausage pinwheels, cinnamon rolls, and whatever else we think of...those are just the all the time things...we eat and open gifts...have done this since my brother and I grew up.
I'm so hungry. :(
And this day is never going to END.
That's so cool about the Santa thing...I miss my ds believing too...
I watched all the kiddie shows this year...Frosty, Charlie Brown...Scrooge...loved it.
My favorite memory growing up about xmas is probably just the cold weather and the songs and looking at xmas lights every year. I still love all that stuff. I love just seeing the kids open gifts, on any holiday. One of my favorite memories of them was a couple of years ago in daycare, the teachers messed up the room and spread gold confetti all over the room and had half eaten cookies and things set out, and said the leprechauns came and both my kids believed wholeheartedly and were so excited to tell me all about it. I love that innocence.
As far as food goes, DH and I are deciding with the kids now about traditional Eid foods we are going to have. Since we are both converts we have to make our own traditional things. We are going to decorate the house for Eid with lights and door foil and paper chains and stuff, and make cookies and a roast. So hopefully that will be a good memory for years.
This was a great idea Keli, its getting me happier about this time of year.
