I love everything about Christmas. It's the one day of the year I'm completely content with myself, with the people around me and I feel safe. Nothing can do me harm on Christmas day.

Christmas morning rituals I'm carrying through from my what my mom did....

My father started an affair when I was around 3yrs, my parents divorced when I was about 7. My mother went into a depression she never pulled herself out of. She had very little to do with us, my sister, 6yrs elder, took care of my brother, me & my younger sister. When my mom sent her away (due to pg at 15yrs) we all just fended for ourselves. She never did much to show her love toward us.

That is, except for Christmas. Though everything before Christmas was fun she would often highly stressed so not my favorite part. My favorite part was having my mom wake even before her youngest children. So when we'd wake up it was to the smell of cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate. Having siblings as far as 12yrs apart, and I being the 2nd to youngest, thoroughly enjoyed having this sweet breakfast while we waited for the older siblings grumble about the early hour & actually take showers before we could enter the family room.

I cannot think of a single Christmas morning where my mother was not filled with pure joy no matter how bad things were in our lives at the time.

SO I GUESS MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CHRISTMAS - THE LOVE.
