Antipsychotic Drugs????
11

Could anyone tell me if you are on this type of drug. I've started hallucinating again and it looks like I'm going to be trying one of these drugs again. I did seroquel for a while but with the lithobid it's just too sedating.

I'm just curious about what you all may or may not take and why. My 2 concerns are fatigue, constipation and weight gain.

TIA

hi danielle,

i've been on so many meds over the past year i have no idea which one(s) were antipsychotic. up until last week i was on seroquel also. i took myself off of it for the same reason........it was too sedating.

i hope you get on a med soon though. i battle with racing thoughts/paranoia which is why i was on the seroquel. they're coming back but i'm going to a new pdoc next week so hopefully she'll give me something better that's not so sedating.

do you have an appointment with your pdoc to discuss this? keep us posted. sorry i couldn't be of more help, but i wanted to let you know i can relate.

Hi Traci,

Sorry you're going through the same thing that I am. I loved seroquel, it did the trick but my body wasn't so happy with it.

I called my p/tdoc tonight because I forgot to tell her about the hallucinations/paranoia. I had an appt for the 11th but we made another one for the 3rd as well. She is concerned about what is going on right now and wants it addressed and taken care of asap. I think risperdal my be an option for me.

I hope that things work out for you too. I hate the paranoia/hallucinations, It's almost worse than the mood swings. Thank you for letting me know that I am not alone, Always feels better to not feel alone.

Hi There,

I used to frequent this board pretty regularly but haven't been able to access the internet much as of the late.

(Hi to everyone who knows me....I've missed you)

As far as anti-psychotics go there are quite a few to choose from. You might want to do an google search on them and see what the statistics and med users say. I personally was also on seroquel but found no fun in being so darn stoned all the time. I was also on respirdal and that worked awesomely accept for the fact that I started lactating again. Only that time it was without a newborn...lol. It also stopped my menses which was a godsend considering my level of pms. I never took Zyprexa. I took Abilify for quite a while and it was above all the best of the *my* crop. No weight gain, no hallucinations, no sedation.....etc. For me it was a good clean med with very little side effect.

Good luck to you.....and when in doubt you can always try the oldies but goodies....

Peace, Love and Healing,

~Teri~

Thank you Teri for your input. I had to canceal my appt for this coming Tuesday so I'm going to drop my lithium by one and add the seroquel and see what happens. If it's too sedating then p/tdoc & I will find another combo at my next appt for the 11th.

Wonder if I'd still have that problem with Risperdal, I have a full hysterectomy? Plus my recent breast augmentation has done damage in that area so maybe I'd be spared that side effect. Can't say I blame you for getting off of that.

Thank you for your input, I greatly appreciate it.

Take care of yourself.
Happy New Year to You & Yours

I know I am late getting into this, but I wanted to say that I have been on some sort of antipsychotic most of the time I have been bipolar, and it seems to be necessary for me- mood stabilizers alone don't seem to be enough. By far the best one I've been on is what I'm taking now: Geodon. I asked to try it in 2002 because it was the first that didn't have a weight problem with it. I've been on it ever since and I am so glad. It has provided the extra kick my Neurontin needed without weight gain or any excessive sedation. The only downside is the price. A single pill is something like $10, which if you don't have some kind of drug coverage may be a problem. But if you do? I highly recommend you try it!

Thanks for the input Beth. Right now I'm going to try backing down on my lithobid and adding a seroquel 100mg at night and see if it is any less sedating to me. My problem is feeling like a zombie in the morning. If this doesn't work then when I see p/tdoc on the 11th we'll discuss other drugs. I am looking into as many as I can. My mental health is important but if other things such as weight gain come into the picture that is not going to help me. I know that might sound shallow but I am very vain (yes, I can admit that) and so weight gain would be as bad as not taking the drug in the first place. Thanks again.

Happy New Year

I also have been taking Geodon for about 3 years. I tried zyprexa and didn't want to take respiradol. Geodon has been good. I use it for mood stabilization, never had hallucinations or paranoia. It is a drug that was/is used for Schizophrenia as well. I take mine at bedtime 40mgs.

Thank you for your input.

How are the side effects with Geodon? Weight gain? Fatigue? Anything?

The only side effects I ever had w/geodon was back when my daily dosage was upped from 80 mgs to 120 (I now take 140). For a few days, I was really drowsy. It only lasted a couple of days, though. I've never seen any weight gain I could attribute to it or any other sedation.
