Can anyone tell me?

I have just been given the medication Abilify to take by a pdoc. After searching it out on the computer I'm rather curious why he prescribed it as I'm also taking lexapro in the morning and he wants me to take this one in the evening. Could anyone tell me about this med and your experiances with it? I can read about it from here till doomsday but personal experiances will tell me more about it in words written for the common folk.

Thank You,

Hello and welcome...as for Abilify, I'm sure you've read that its an anti-psychotic medication. Its generally (as are most a/p meds) prescribed for a variety of symptoms ranging from racing thoughts, mania, paranoia, and sometimes though to a lesser extent, depression. Many people have had success with Abilify. I wasn't able to take it due to a reaction to it. But I've had luck with other a/p meds. Especially when I'm pretty manic and need to "come down". I can get pretty up there...and when I do, I rage, hallucinate (sometimes), get paranoid, my thoughts race, etc.

Not sure why you have been prescribed Abilify, if you'd like to share, please feel free.

We're glad you're here, and are here for you.

Hugs,

Hi and welcome:)

I was on it for a very short time. The one side effect I had from it was a rash, similar to the one I developed when I was on lamictal. Unfortunately, other than that, I can't tell you much because the pdoc pulled me off it as soon as the rash developed.

I was once prescribed lexapro as well, but that is an anti-depressant. If you have been diagnosed as being bipolar, chances are that's why the abilify was added. The abilify will calm the manic symptoms while the lexapro will ease the depressive symptoms. I couldn't take the lexapro either.......got terrible migraines from it. So, hopefully both will work for you.

Keep us posted as to how you are doing.

Keli, I'm not sure why he chose this particular med. I've been diagnosed with PTSD and SAD. I ended up seeing this pdoc because the clinic I go to didn't want to go any further with my meds since they were unable to come up with a combination that would work for me. I started getting worried when the SAD kicked in and has progressed alot faster then in previous years. I'm at the point right now that I usually do not reach until late Feb. or early March. It's not a nice place to be and the depression has set in heavily. Usually I suffer from anxiety and panic due to the PTSD. This is the first year I have suffer to the point i needed to seek help as i was no longer able to control it on my own. I'm kind of thinking that the anxiety and panic has somehow mad the SAD alot worse. To be truthful I'm abit leary about adding this medication as I'm having trouble seeing where it fits in with my symptons. Thanks for listening I didn't mean for this to go on forever.

I am on ablify. I take it in the morning because my pdoc says it can be alerting. I really like it. It has evened out my moods considerably. I also take topamax as a mood stablizer and cymbalta as an ad. I have bp II. I have not noticed any side effects from the abilify except some weight gain, which pdoc insists is not from the abilify.
