Zyprexa/trying to lose weight

Has anyone had any success losing weight while on one of these meds. I am currently taking zyprexa and all I have done is gain weight. I started weight watchers but have only lost 1 lb in 3 weeks. It is depressing within itself. Does anyone have any advice on how to overcome the effects of this drug. My doctor told me that zyprexa not only causes an increase in appetite it also slows my metabolism. Great! Just what I need. I need to take off this weight in like 4 months.
If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

i only have bad news about zyprexa.
sorry.
i had similar problems w/ lithium this time.
somehow the drugs that are supposed to make you skinny just aren't working that way for me.
go figure.
BUT....at least it seems you have stopped gaining & losing even a pound is a good sign.
when i was on zyprexa i went to weight watchers & gained.
not what you wanted to hear...sorry.

Have you considered Geodon? I took Zyprexa until sometime in 2002, and I had a HORRIBLE problem with weight (still do). But, I had heard that Geodon was a lot better in that respect, so I asked my pdoc at the time if I could try it. He seemed incredulous that I wanted to try it just because of my weight, but because I insisted, he wrote the script. While my weight problems are not over, after that, I had a MUCH easier time losing weight. What's more is that the Geodon worked beautifully supplementing the Neurontin I was already taking (which also doesn't cause weight gain, btw), and had almost no side fx that I could notice. Just a little drowsiness once at a time when my dose was increased. Finally, I think it is safer than Zyprexa. I seem to remember not long ago there being ads for a class action lawsuit involving Zyprexa and Diabetes (anyone have more info?)

Sorry, Michelle.

Zyprexa is a big weight gainer. I know lots of people on it who have gained major weight. You should ask to try Geodon or Abilify. They are both a/p meds and either cause weight loss (geodon) or are weight neutral!
