Are mood stablizers supposed to keep

depression at bay too? I have been depressed and I am on an ad and 2 mood stablizers. Is this a sign that they are not working right? It is not too bad, so could they just need to be increased? I go to pdoc tommorrow. I also have been very anxious and having some paranoia, which I have never had before. Any advice would be appreciated. Please tell me something as simple as upping a dosage of something may help and not necessarily having to go back to square one.

it could be the meds, could need adjustment...you really need to let pdoc know everything when you go tomorrow.

I was on an a/d before that sent me crawling up the walls....so it could be a side effect.

I hope they adjust it and you feel

Hey Missy,

According to pdocs...mood stabs ARE supposed to keep both ends of the spectrum LEVEL. However, its not that simple and they know it. Talk to pdoc tomorrow about it though...you probably only need an increase...and you won't need to start at square one.

Hang in there.

Love you!

In principle, yes; but for many people (especially those with big depression problems) it doesn't.

Could the increase of topomax last month be causing the extra anxiety and paranoia? Even the depression, if it really even is depression - it really could be just the anxiety and paranoia, it feels different.

Edited to add that was the only change last month. I have been on abilify and cymbalta for awhile now. The topamax was upped because of some breakthrough hypomania.

Its probably unlikely that the Topamax increase is causing the depression and anxiety. Didn't you say you were really busy lately, and you've been sick and the kids have been sick, and you have/had PMS? Its probably all of the above and breakthrough depression/anxiety. Its all such a jumbled up mess...I wish there were more precise answers to your (our) situation. Just talk to pdoc.

In my case, the CYMBALTA caused me TONS of anxiety. I was on 60 mgs. However, it was the BEST a/d I've ever been on.

I really wish like hell I could take them again. But I can't, so I deal.

Love you.

Hi there! I myself am on ad's and mood stabilizers...Sometimes, In my case, I needed a cocktail of meds to help with the depression and things like the paranoia. This DOES NOT mean that you are worse than some others but I was told that I needed two meds to combat my depression/paranoia/anxiety. Asfor an increase, that may just be the solution you need. Good Luck!!!
I hope that was some help....
