OMG!!!!! My insurance went into effect 5/1. So I call pdoc to get an appointment and they have NONE, NOTHING! I am on a waiting list, yes I said waiting list. Like its restaurante. WTF? There is nothing they can do in the mean time. I finally get insurance again and still cant get to the dr. I am a basket case. I was all pupmped up to get back on schedule and in therapy. Now what? I fell like I have just been kicked in the gut. I asked the girl on the phone, well schedule me for the first available so I will at least have something. She tells me there is no first available on a waiting list. What do people to who are worse off then me? Kill them selves? It just seems like one let down after another. Now I have to got to work at 145pm and be a basket case.

I think I have to agree with Donna. Call your insurance company and get a complete list pdocs in your area. There's got to be more than one provider. And on the off chance that there isn't, if things get really bad go to the ER. There's no need to suffer. There are services available even if they seem drastic at first. Something I've been told a fair few times and finally understand it was out of caring - there was no hidden motive. So hang in there and call your insurance company. Let us know what you find out. Remember, we're here to support you too.

Yes, this industry have severe problems. My H was in a acute manic state. Suffering delusions, psychosis, catonia, etc. It took a lot of work for him to get into see a therapist, who then had a psychiatric nurse see him, who didn't dare prescribe him anything except 25mg of Seroquel & she then told him she could not treat him as she is pediatric. The earliest she could get him in to see a psych was 3 months later.

WHAT DID HE DO???

As Donna mentioned, ER. He made sure they understood he was not a threat to himself or others so they would not hospitalize him, but he was able to get onto 200mg of Seroquel and have the ER psych call the psych nurse and get him prescrip (ER can only prescibe for 1 week). He then suffered through the next 3 months the best he could.

EVERY PROFESSIONAL who saw my H during this state said he was going to end up dead or in jail.... but still, nobody could push thing through quicker.

I agree with the others. These are my suggestions:

Call ins & get a full list. I did that for an IC and just as I was about to give up when I found one who would see me in 2 days rather than 2 months.

Try calling NAMI or DBSA to see if anyone has recommendations in your area.

Call your primary doc & see if he has recommendations, if s/he is close to a doc, perhaps s/he can get you an earlier apt.

ER, let them know your are not an immediate threat but need help & cannot get it anywhere else.

*** Any office you call tell them you would like to be put on a list to be called if there is a cancellation.

Good Luck to you. Continue to hold strong.
