Question about rapid cycling
| Fri, 06-02-2006 - 4:21pm |
I didn't want to hijack meggem2005's thread with my question.
My DD rapid cycles, sometimes several times in a DAY. She will be so low and blue. A few hours later she will be bouncing off the walls. By night time she can be withdrawn. Pdoc thought that was extreme.
Anyone else like this?

not sure if its extreme..everyone is different...but i've done that a couple times this week.
was very bummed this morning...dragging...forced myself out to lunch (by myself even) and was basically in tears and then after I came back to work...I've been fine.
God could not be everywhere, so
How old is you DD? Has she been Dx'd with bipolar or

My DD is 15. She was diagnosed BP 2-3 months ago. She also has ADD.
She has been on Ritalin for the ADD for years. About 1 1/2 months ago the Pdoc put her on Lamictal for the BP. Just this past Tuesday the Pdoc added Abilify. Hopefully this will straighten DD's mood swings out some.
I wonder if it could be hormones, is there any other major hormonal rage bigger than 15-16 yrs? From my understanding hormones has a huge affect these type of brain disorders. I believe there could be another possibility, it's called boderline personality disorder. I'm not an expert, but I blieve BPD cycles are much more rapid.
Have you heard of NAMI (National Association for Mental Illness)? Here is their description of BPD:
----------------
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is characterized by impulsivity and instability in mood, self-image, and personal relationships. It is fairly common and is diagnosed more often in females than males.
What are the symptoms of BPD?
Individuals with BPD have several of the following symptoms:
* marked mood swings with periods of intense depression, irritability, and/or anxiety lasting a few hours to a few days;
* inappropriate, intense, or uncontrolled anger;
* impulsiveness in spending, sex, substance use, shoplifting, reckless driving, or binge eating;
* recurring suicidal threats or self-injurious behavior;
* unstable, intense personal relationships with extreme, black and white views of people and experiences, sometimes alternating between "all good" idealization and "all bad" devaluation;
* marked, persistent uncertainty about self-image, long term goals, friendships, and values;
* chronic boredom or feelings of emptiness; and
* frantic efforts to avoid abandonment, either real or imagined.
----------------
If you have not heard of NAMI I highly recommend you contact your local chapter. They are a great resource of information, have classes on how to deal with depressive illnesses, hold support groups for friends/family and literally saved my marriage & perhaps myself by being such a great support while my H experienced acute mania (pysochosis, delusions & catatonia).
