that you could just wear a sign that says, "Yes I'm Bipolar - Deal With It!"
I find so often that I get so angry and/or frustrated with people and myself and this triggers me to impulsively do those things that we all know are part of the illness: go out and spend a minor fortune, lose my temper with total strangers, say or do stupid things, inhale the fridge! But sometimes it would be so nice to not have to worry about the stigma and people's reactions and just say, "Hey, I have this illness that makes me do and say things that at the time seem a really good idea but probably aren't so could you get off my back and stop treating me like an idiot/mass murderer/your mother-in-law?!" And watch them fall over themselves with apologies.
Just my little vent

I could have used one of those signs last week at work when I got short with a parent about driving too fast on the parking lot...I can't even look at her...I'm so stupid...
Maybe we should have business size cards to hand out. The autism society gave me some for when my kids have meltdowns in public or when they do/say inappropriate things. They say something like: My daughter/son is autistic. This is a neurological condition. They cannot control their behavior/emotions like other children can. If you have any questions, please visit the autism society web site to learn more about this disability.
I could use a stack of those: I am bipolar. This is a neurological condition. I cannot control my behavior/emotions like other adults. If you have any questions, please call my t/pdoc.

I think having a card is a great idea! Most people just think I'm a moody b$&ch anyway, this would explain it in a handy little card.
