Memory issues

I have noticed here lately that my memory has gone out the window. I am not sure if it is the meds that I am now back on or if it is the BP. I have read in several places that BP's have poor memory. I will be in the middle of a sentence and cant remember what I was talking about. And if I am describing something I cant remember the name of what it is I am talking about. I am finding myself making lists for just about everything. Does anyone know if there is a relationship between loss of memory and you BP getting worse? In a lot of books that I have read they say that BP usually get worse with time, and that meds are usually increased as it gets worse. It almost seems like my brain is swiss cheese.....and the hole in the swiss cheese just sucks up everything never to be seen again...lol my dad kept asking me for my old pantyhose ( so he could

Besides being bp, I am also mildly autistic. And like a lot of autistics, I grew up with a crack memory (do NOT try to play Trivial Pursuit with me...I WILL win!) My memory is still pretty good, but before I was diagnosed and put on medicine, it was near-photographic, and it is not anymore. I don't know if it was the meds or the illness itself, but it was one of the two. Doesn't matter, I still do OK.

About bp possibly getting worse: from what I understand, what causes bp to get worse is the brain being weakened by episodes and made more susceptible to more episodes...a vicious circle. In my experience, this does not happen if your meds are controlling your episodes to begin with. I know that I have been more stable in the past few years than I ever was in my 20s (I'm 33), and take a lot less medicine. Now I only take 900 mg of Neurontin, 140 mg of Geodon, and some occasional Ativan and Ambien. When I was in my 20s, I had a list of meds a lot longer than that. My bp seems to be getting better if anything, not worse.

Beth is right. BP will definitely get worse if left UNTREATED. But, if you are STABLE on meds, and having less episodes, your brain will "get it" so to speak and you won't get any worse. You can, however, have breakthrough episodes and those are normal. Well, BP normal, anyway.

My memory is shot to hell too. I don't know if its the meds, or the BP either. I used to remember EVERYTHING very clearly. Now, barely. I too have to write down EVERYTHING.

But, all in all, it could be worse.

Love and Hugs,

Your not alone. I too have memory problems. Sometimes i feel so stupid because I can't remember things. I don't know if it is bp or meds but whatever it is, it is fraustrating.

I have read the same thing and believe this is my problem too and I am not on any meds. I hate running into people who know me and I can't for the life of me figure out who it is. I called this one woman someone else's name and she got so mad! Well, at least she won't come up to me anymore!:)
Yet another "detail" to deal with! Kelli

Peanut is my 7 yr old mini doxi and Buster is my 2 yr old Basset. AKA my fur-babies. Since I can not ever have kids (had a total hysterectomy at 25) they have taken the place of having kids. And with DH always on the road traveling they have been my company and security blanket...lol

I figure they will never tell my secrets, they dont ever judge me, they are always there to listen to me and they give me UNCONDITIONAL love. I hope this clears things up. And I am not one of those ppl who think their pets are an acessory...like paris hilton. My kids act like real dogs...LMAO
