HI everyone , I have a few questions. I have a 4.5 yr old that is displaying the dr jeckel /Ms hyde stuff. One day she can be totally sweet with the please and thank yous and I can tell her no she cant have something and she will say ok mom. The next day the same situation arises and she will be total hell to be around. ( and shes never gotten anything from acting this way eather so its not that) I mean its like shes a TOTAL differant kid and it not a subtle change eather its litterly like shes a different kid.We have bipolor in our family on both sides, should I have her tested ? She really scares me sometimes, one day shes teachers pet the next day shes in time out all day. I'm really at a loss as to whats goign on with her. could this be bi-polor showing up in her ?
Thanks
Beth

Hi Beth and welcome !!!
I'm really not sure at what age bp can show symptoms.
God could not be everywhere, so
Hi there and welcome. You are going to be hard pressed to find a pdoc who will diagnose someone that young with BP. But I'll tell you this. My son, who is now 15, showed signs/symptoms of what they thought was ADHD as early as 1. He was diagnosed and medicated at 4. He came off meds for ADHD when he was around 9. His pdoc (who he never sees anymore) says that he was most likely misdiagnosed with ADHD and is BP, now that they know I have it, and its in my family like the plague.
He's not medicated now. I am not medicating him with BP meds unless absolutely positively necessary and its just not at this point.
He presented symptoms of anger, irritability and RAGE mostly. Then he would be FINE and happy go lucky again all of a sudden.
Its very hard to diagnose in children. It could be SOOO many things. But if you are concerned, and its causing a problem, I would most definitely take her to a pdoc for evaluation.
Hugs,
Keli
Thanks guys. I was diagnosed with Depression needing medication after she was born baby blues just never went away. and I'm not really wanting to medicate her her daddy had a hard time when I started taking meds for my depression we've got depression and bipolor all through my family. adn we do have a lot going on right now which could be part of it. I'm just wanting to beable to call it something besides hearing shes a spoiled brat or something to that effect. I'm just tired right now I guess I'm raising 2 kids pretty much by my self right now and me not knowing what I'm going to have to deal with from her when I get up in the morning dosnt help. thank you all so much (huggs) to everyone.
