Question for y'all?

I have been searching and searching the net for an answer to this because it's the last unanswered part of my mini-breakdown this past week. For the most part, the high lithium level was really messing with me. That doesn't explain the hallucinations. I've been looking to see if I can find something that links the lithium to that too because pdoc is taking me off it anyway so I can hope for some light at the end of the tunnel.

As for the eating thing, well that's another thing altogether and just don't know what's up with that. But I have started drinking those instant breakfast things. So hopefully that will get me going in the right direction.

Ok, totally got off track here. I guess my question is does anyone here know if lithium can cause hallucinations? TIA.

I was on lithium a few yrs ago and I was taking 1200mg a day. It didn't give me hallucinations but it did affect me. I was a lump. No energy, no personality, no feelings. I ballooned to 187lbs and it also gave me the worst case of Adult acne. It was so embarrassing. I worked as an assistant property appraiser and I was so embarrassed to go to ppl houses and do their appraisal. I had the acne for over a yr. My face was one big scab,

Traci,

Follow this link and scroll down to the second set of side effects; you will find hallucinations under it. If you can't click on it, just hilight, copy and paste in your browser.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a681039.html

Hope this helps.

Also, I'm pretty sure that severe depression can, in and of itself, cause hallucinations. I believe the lithium can cause loss of appetite, too (I forget if it is on that list or some other list). Another very interesting web site to check out is www.crazymeds.org This site is NOT medically based but it give many "real life" experiences with all different kinds of psych meds.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hugs,
Peg

I don't think Li causes hallucinations, but I do know that when I'm extremely manic, I have hallucinations, auditory and visual. At least in my case, the Li didn't cause them, bipolar did. I know this because I have had them when on other medicines and no medicine (I have not hallucinated since 1999, btw. My bp has been more or less controlled.)
