How do you feel about tattoos?

This may be a bit off topic, but I'm curious... I was on another board where we were discussing tattoos and the different reactions people have to them. I thought it might make for an interesting discussion here.
Do you think tattoos have become more socially acceptable over the years? Do you have, or have you ever considered getting a tattoo yourself?
A few years ago, we had board on tattoos and piercings. While I myself don't have any tattoos, I totally loved reading the stories "behind the tattoos" that the women would share. Until that board, I never realized that so many tattoos are actually tributes/dedications to someone or some event that is uniquely special to those individuals.

I don't have ANY myself but would love to one.
Mostly a "Memorial" tat...
My dd has several and my e-x-sil is an "Artist" who does them (he also has several)...
I think it's a personal choice.
In the past I was under the impression if you have Psoriasis it's not a good idea to get one.
Someday I might, although I do have Psoriasis.
What an interesting question, it really makes you think.
Hi,
Personally I have no interest in getting a tattoo. And I should add I have no piercings of any kind, including pierced ears. I, personally feel piercings (other than one hole in each ear for earrings) is akin to self-mutilation.
I never felt the need to adorn myself either way. I guess I'm the rebel in our current culture where it seems everyone gets tattoos of just about anything on any body part they choose.
I do admire tattoos that are well done but still would not want one for myself. I find most of them vulgar and ugly. I also think many people don't think long-term when selecting their tattoo or the location.
I worked
I don't have a tattoo because I never wanted to be subjected to the pain of the needles,
Thanks for answering! I remember the first time I caught one of the tattoo shows on Bravo and was totally amazed at the skill of the artists. Tattooing had evolved tremendously from the time my dad got his tat in WW2!
I think you're hip... after all, you're here, aren't you? :smileywink:
I'm sure that working in a bridal shop gives you a different perspective on tattoos, too. As you pointed out, people should consider the future when chosing a location or a specific tattoo.
LOL...the pain of needles is what kept me
I can admire others tatoos, the meaning behind them, and the skill to creat them but they are not for me. I just don't really want one myself. If my kids got one I wouldn't be bothered with it or if my DH decided to get one I wouldn't mind but they are just not for me. Count me in the not wanting to deal with the pain group. ;) I do like the Tatoo shows-we used to always watch Miami Ink-more for the stories behind the tatoos and the amount of work and thought that they put into creating the perfect tatoo. Those really popular tatoo artists are just that-artists. I can definately appreciate the artistic talent it takes to create a good tatoo.
I also agree that people who get them need to consider placement and their future before getting one. The military will not allow tatoos anywhere where they are seen and I know you can't work in some career fields with tatoos showing. I think a lot of kids get tatoos without thinking about how it could affect them in the future.
