want to have a baby- - meds?-trigger-

I know many of you have children, and therefore must have gone through pregnancy, so I'm curious if you could tell me anything about medications and pregnancy? We've been trying to conceive for about 2 yrs now, and I did conceive (I'd stopped taking the Lexapro during pregnancy and it was AWEFUL) but ended in a miscarriage on 2/14/06. I'm currently on Lexapro 20mg and the OBGYN said I should stay on it even if/when I conceive again and stay on it during the pregnancy. I recently was prescribed Seroquel too. The Dr. said I shouldn't be on Seroquel if I get pregnant, but that they want me to go ahead and start the medication. I don't want to start Seroquel because I am actively trying to get pregnant! My "highs" aren't that bad, it's just the "lows" that are sort of dibilitating. I said -trigger- in the title just in case mentioning this stuff could bother someone.

Anyways, has anyone continued medications throughout conception / pregnancy? and if so, can I ask what you took? If you don't want to publicly announce, I can completely understand so if you could even email me michelle100251@yahoo.com I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. I'm 31 and I want to have a baby sooo much.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I am a mother of 3, but I wasn't diagnosed until well after my third child was born. I've heard lamictal is a relatively safe med to be on when trying to conceive, but I could be mistaken. It's best to check with your doctors - both ob and pdoc. They'll know best what you should do. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage, but will say a prayer for a successful pregnancy very soon for you. I believe there are others here who can probably answer your question better than I can. Best of luck and keep posting. We're here for you.

Hugs,

Thanks Traci, we are talking about taking a break from actively trying, or "not trying not to" for a couple months. I'm wanting to do a Medical Transcription program so I can have an income where I can work from home. Since I don't want to have to be missing the last couple months of the program, it looks like the smartest thing to do to avoid having to miss the end of the program and go back again to finish, and to avoid high daycare costs for an infant while I finish the 2 month inhouse training with a job, is to just wait on conceiving until around November or December. That will give me time to get the school thing completed (I only need a few classes in the program since I have a BA/ and half done with a MA and most classes will transfer) Hopefully, this will give me time to have the pdoc appointments and get the medication started -I don't wanna start the Seroquel- and get things undercontrol / figured out for meds safety etc before conceiving. I know I cant go off the lexapro cause I do very very poorly without it.

Michelle ,

I was on Zoloft while pg with my ds, 4. I didn't get Dx w.BP until 2 years later. We were going to start ttc t his month so i got off all but the Lexapro. My OB/GYN wuold rather that i got off the Lexapro. I will try it I guess. But DH told me last week or so that he does not want to ttc after all. We are not doing anything to prevent pg though. And my chances of getting pg w/out fert drugs is low. SO anyway, i dont' know. I guess i might try to wait to see if you get pg before you start taking the other stuff. I know some women go through pg and have a perfect baby even while on Rx that aren't recommended while pg. My highs were not very high either, but i am afriad of being off the anti depressant. I would pray about it.
Gook luck ttc!

edit...I was taking Lamictal and Risperdal. Pdoc said that Lamictal can cause neural (sp) tube damage int eh fetus. I dont' remember what the Risperdal was known to cause. My OB/GYN said that the Lexapro was known to cause heart defects.
