Yesterday in my class we did an exercise...a visual one. My professor had turned down the lights and had us sit and get comfortable. He took us slowly back to certain ages in our lives, high school, middle school, elementary school and to the youngest memory we had.

Every bad memory came to first thought, my molestation, my rape, my hellish relationship with my ex and his family and when I was 2 I had to have an operation to have a hernia removed. It's weird how no happy memories came first or at all because once I thought of the bad stuff I was paralized in them.

The point of this exercise was that the new Psychology theorist we are studying believed the earliest memory we had infuences some acpect of what is happing to us today, the way we feel or other things.

I continued with class acting

Tina,

I would say something to the professor--you don't have to go into details, but I'd let him know that it brought up horrible memories that really upset you.

Tina,

I have to agree with Marci, here. When you first started describing this, I thought it was a drama class. A psychology prof should know better, at least warn people and give the option to leave class until the exercise is over. It may sound like overly sensitive nonsense to some students, but I would hope most are drawn to psychology because they already understand the power of memories, and how bad memories flooding back can ruin your day, your week, or more.

Hope you're feeling better,
Cari
