Anyone here in Oklahoma?

I haven't been here in ages. I have bipolar disorder and I work with people with various mental illnesses.

I am contemplating a move to Oklahoma. I need to know ASAP what folks who live there think of the mental health care in that state. I've been to their website but am more interested in what users of the system think about it.

Anything you can tell me would help me.

Thanks so much,
Nancy

I'm from oklahoma. Tulsa area to be specific.

As for Mental health: There are 4 main hospitals (TCBH, Parkside, Brookhaven, Laureate). Each have their outpatient facilities to go with. With the exception of TCBH, all are comparable in their services. And Brookhaven and Laureate are the 5 star hotel equivalent. I'd never recomend TCBH (Tulsa Center for Behavioral Health)hospital and the ACT (Associated Centers for Therapy) outpatient, unless you couldn't go anyplace else. I mean it "can" be tolerated, they don't abuse patients, but the level of care just isn't there.

Outside of Tulsa, I'm unfamiliar with the mental health system. I'm up for any other questions I can help with. =)

Nancy,

NAMI (or some other group and NAMI published it) did a study not long ago where they graded mental health services for every state.

They made it easy and mentioned it on their home page!

Oklahoma got a D overall; however only about 10 states got a C and 4 got a B--everything else was a D or worse!

I'm looking at moving to Oklahoma City but will be traveling around the entire state as part of my job if I get it. The website looks really good and the narrative for the NAMI grading of OK looks like they have done some improvements. If I go there, I'd like to do what I can to improve it even further.

Like I said, I've read the website extensively but wanted to get comments from actual people using the mental health system there.
