Question for those receiving SSDI or SSI

I was turned down the first time around, and have now hired an attorney for the appeal. Do you have any advice that would better my chances? I have paper work to fill out, and also got a letter asking me to call a disability examiner. It said they would be asking me questions...any idea what the questions might be? I appreciate any help you could give me!

I'm pretty familiar with the process in the state of Oregon. It's pretty standard to get a denial on the first shot around. Definately appeal it. I would also suggest calling someone who works for a local community service agency or for senior and disabled services. They know the system well. I've got more notes on what to expect and what helps in my desk at work. I'll be there at some point this week. I'll try to remember to look at them and see if there's anything else I can suggest.

Hi There - My name is Jena and I have been on disability for a little over two years now. I have been told that they will always deny you the first go around. Once I got denied I got a lawyer and got approved right away. I never did have to go to court or go to one of their doctor's to evaluate me. I think what happened with me is that all my doctor's backed me 100% and filled out all of the paperwork for me. Good Luck! It can be frustrating. One of my friends has been trying to get on disability for about a year and a half now. She's been denied twice and has to wait another 18 months before she can go before a judge. Just hang in there though. It will be okay!

Take Care, Jena

Renee,

I went through this too, but was denied 3 times before I finally got an attorney then had to wait over a year for a hearing (but my state, MO, was extremely behind at the time--so much so that they brought judges in from other jurisdictions).

Do you have a regular tdoc & pdoc?
