We have come to the decision that we can not buy xmas gifts this yr for each other. Which is ok by me. So no one in the house, me, DH or dad will exchange gifts. And we are not sending any out to family either. We just don't have the money this yr to do it.

This idea isn't exactly free, but it's real cheap. There have been a few Christmases that I couldn't afford gifts, and what I have usually done is make huge batches of candy cane brownies for everyone on my list. What you do is prepare a standard scratch brownie recipe, and at the point you would add nuts, instead add three ground-up candy canes for a small batch, six for a large. This idea makes delicious chewy chocolate mint brownies. And, people in my family acted like they appreciated them...at least I hope they weren't just being polite!

There were other Christmases I got gifts at dollar stores. You'd be amazed what those places carry!

I second food presents and the best part is you get to enjoy them, too.
