Jekyll & hyde syndrome?
| Wed, 12-06-2006 - 11:35am |
We just took out 4 yo ds to a child psychologist. he said ds has jekyll and hyde syndrome. We have to take him to a psychiatrist who will probably prescribe a low dose of risperdal. Its too bad I just got rid of some of that. Anyway...I can't find really anything on it online.

this is interesting...when i do a search, i'm getting blogs/books about it...but can't find a site that will explain what it is.

After reading the blurb on the book Donna found, I'm wondering if this isn't just a psychobabble term for BP, particularly since it's coming up mostly on blog stuff.
I'm glad you'll be seeing a psychiatrist, as well & not just taking the psycholgists word on it.
I agree, Marci...I think the whole thing just means "BP". I did a lot of searching too, April, and all i find are the same things Donna found...definitely get to a pdoc.
And I must say though...my ds took ADHD meds when he was very young (3-11) and they saved him...both his life, and his education.
He is big time BP now...probably was the whole time, just misdxd. But, the meds suck, and right now, we can deal with it, without them.
Well said Marci. I was thinking the same thing about it being bp. I have vented many times on the child bp board about how these parents are fighting the same fights DW and myself went through 8 to 10 yrs ago with DS....what is so "bad" about bp that MOST of the pdocs and tdocs are SOOOO afraid to label a child with that dx? I know some of it IS still the argument in the pdoc community about whether "Early Onset" bp exists....I was told by one quack that children are not emotionally developed enough to have depression or mood disorders until 18 or so....GRRRRRR!!!!!!
As to the ADD/ADHD meds, I won't even get started, I think I have climbed on that soap box enough here that most of ya know how I feel about them.

hmmm..guess I missed that soap box.

Well, my soap box in short is, the pdoc community has broadened the definition of ADD/ADHD to such an extent practically EVERY kid fits the dx....don't get me wrong, there are some out there that need them, I have a niece that DEFINITELY needed them, but I strongly feel they are over prescribed...O.K. done for now.

Thanks everyone! I was thinking BP and the pdoc did mention that he could get it. I'm glad we are getting a 2nd opinion. I just wish we could see the best guy out there for it!
