Today I go to see my new pdoc. He's been recommended to me by a few others who love him to peices. Now I should say that every pdoc appt thus far has ended with the typical "take the pill and it will get you over this, now go get a life." So needless to say I'm a bit scared, but I also know I need to get help ASAP. People around me are starting to relize I'm on a down swing. I'm hoping that this therpist will understand more about bp, the proper choices for it, and a good dose of cognative therpy. Hopefully....

UPDATE:

Well had a very long, intense appt with the new pdoc. I was really impressed! We discussed old and new problems, goals and he even gave me homework to start on from the cognitive side of therapy. I'm to go and have new blood work done tomorrow AM to check on heart problems as well as the same old thyroid issues. Once that is done he and I will sit down and start looking at meds so I've got a good feeling about this.

Hi Keri, I live south of Hansville north of Kingston just across the Sound, so we're almost neighbors. // For some personal advice, I'd pay close attention to how this PDr treats you in the long haul. I had a therapist many years ago in another state who wasn't in touch of the reality that the bipolar disorder actually existed and wasn't just some flaw in a persons thinking. A really stupid thing coming from a therapist, but yep, she existed. After she worked with me for a while she told me that she felt that 'I' really had NO interest in helping myself get better and that I should go see a different therapist since she didn't feel that she could work with me anymore. She then left the room leaving me just sitting there. That was a fine 'how-d-do' for a guy in a deep stage of depression from being b/p. (it may help a bit to now read my Personal Profile since it will explain more) // I switched to start working with a very good clinical therapist who specialized in working with people who were 'conically mentally ill', and I stayed with her even through my 'melt down' and hospitalization where I was diagnosed as being b/p. // Since that one bad experience quite some time ago 'I' now personally first interview any new therapist or PDr to make sure they're in tune with the world of us people with mental illnesses. I then (very nicely) keep on their butt to make sure they don't start to shuffle my personal case to the bottom of their work pile. If you don't pay attention and keep them working for you, they can be pulled away from your personal needs by the other people in their 'case load'. Good luck and I hope your new PDr keeps working well for you. >>>> Tommy
