Hello everyone. I was diagnosed Wednesday as being Bipolar, rapid cycling. I had already been taking Wellbutrin XL 150 mg (prescribed by my GP) when I finally went to see a psychiatrist. He has prescribed Lamictal. I plan on beginning taking it Monday night, since I want to go out and party Sunday night. I have a sister with Bipolar with Schizoaffective disorder, and several other relatives with mood/psychiatric problems. I was hoping to escape a diagnosis such as this, but my moods are getting worse and I knew I needed to get help before I reached a critical point. I also have generalized anxiety disorder.

So, here I am.

Welcome Jess !!

I am glad you got a hold on these symptoms before they got of of hand. I hope the Welbutrin keeps working and Lamictal is great. It is so hard to escape mental illness when it runs in your family. It runs in mine as well. Living with mentally ill people affects our moods too. So, it isn't just biological but environmental as well.

Look forward to knowing you. Keep posting.

I just saw something in your post....the Wellbutrin may be feeding into your rapid cycling. I am not certain on that as that med was added to my DS's cocktail after being on an ms for several years. I DO know ALOT of a/d drugs will cause rapid cycling in bp patients when not accompanied by am ms and when an ms is added the a/d med needs to be stopped to slow down the rapid cycling....Zoloft threw me for a loop, it was a wonder I didn't murder someone while on it without an ms. Something to talk to your doc's about....in my case it doesn't make a hill of beans, I am still a rapid cycler even on Lamictal only.
