Side effects of Lithium?

Hello everyone,

It's been a long time since I've posted last. Here it goes. I was seeing someone that I felt and still feel very special to me. Unfortunately as I last posted about a year ago, she was diagonosed with having the Bipolar Disorder. Although mild as I was told, the person I knew has changed since she was diagnosed and now taking lithium. We used to be very intimate before she was diagnosed and thought that we were on our way to a wonderful and sharing relationship. Now after being diagnosed, intimacy is a thing of the past. What are the sexual side effects of lithium specifically to a woman? Prior to her diagnosis, we couldn't keep our hands off of each other. Now she avoids it, atleast with me. Please let me know what's going on. There has been many occassions that we could've reconnected but seem to go our separate ways after a nice evening of dinner or movies. I am trying to hang on and now I'm not too sure.

I didn't respond at first because I have never dealt with Lithium....however, after reading you post again I got to thinking about something. Allot of times, bp people do not "seek" help when manic (as gemini pointed out, the sex drive will be high when manic), but then when we ineviteably crash, that is when we are forced to admit we need help....sooooo it may not have been the dx that caused the drop off in sex drive, it could be the depression which led to the dx.

On another note, I have read and talked to people who's m/s's a/d meds leave them feeling "blah" or not really feeling at all (kind of kills a romantic involvement).

That is my two cents....might suggest a change of meds and see what happens.
