Hi, O.K. I have gained about 40 , well maybe 45 pounds since I have been on my meds. My doc told me to go on Atkins and I became almost suicidal. I told him I needed to eat carbs my mother is a nurse and she told me the same. But he said I would stay fat if I ate carbs and I told him I might be dead. Anyway, I discovered this great book, The serotonin power diet which gives me all the carbs I need and I have lost aboug 12 pounds already. Check it out.

AWESOME! I have gained an elementary aged kid worth of weight. Literally, like I went from 120 to 150 in a year or two (around 1998), then bam I hit 160(around 2000), then 180/185 (2003), then tada I'm tipping the scales now at 206!!!
I don't just eat carbs, I consume, love, desire, need, and gorge Carbs. carbs carbs carbs. I live off of Bread products and Coke. carbbit, carbbit (like ribbit) *bounces around like a frog* carbbit carrbit carrbit!!!
I'm actually feeling really good right now. Wow, this is absolutely awesome yay me! I can't stop laughing, carbbit. Why don't other people find my hilarious 'funnies' funny. Maybe you all will appreciate my stupid humor. LOL Man I hope I keep feeling good, I've been soo down and fatigued for sooo soo long, tired and fatigued. I actually just now started feeling good while typing this post. Was so so exhausted. Maybe I'll be able to get all the house work done tonight that has been put off or done little bit by little bit because I've been so friggin exhausted/tired/fatigued/down. I could go ahead and clean out the car since its in the garage, and maybe get my paper written for school. Get that done. Thatd be awesome.
I'm going to look at that diet thing. I always 'wish I could lose weight but dont try cause I know I'll fail', but I think I CAN do it, get this fat-suit off, that's what it feels like, like I'm wearing a fat-suit. I should be able to unzip it and step out of it with my real body. Its like I can feel myself inside this fat-suit, but I can't figure out where the seams are, or the zipper to get it off.
That is awesome you lost 12 #'s ....Great job. I will check out this diet I never heard of it. It is sooo true you do need carbs, but the right ones. Get them from fruits and veggies and not from sugar and white flour and white flour products like bread. I hate the Atkins diet. South beach is healthier but still hard to do. I just had WLS ( weight loss surgery called the lapband...NOT gastric bypass)but I still have to eat the right foods or I will NOT lose an pound. I am doing a food journal on www.sparkpeople.com. It helps me keep track of my protein, carb, and fat intake. It counts calories for you too. I love it. Check it out if you want.
Good luck on this diet and keep us posted.

I am so excited you all have found The Serotonin Power Diet as an answer to the carb cravings so common with antidepessants and other mood stablilizing drugs! I am a physician and one of the authors and we have worked with hundreds of clients who have gained weight on their psychiatric medications - they thought something was wrong with them for never feeling full no matter how much they ate. Or they thought they had an eating disorder because they had such strong cravings for carbs. They couldn't understand the weight gain and wanted to get off their meds but knew they were helping their mood too much to do so.
Quickly after starting The Serotonin Power Diet their cravings were under control and they felt satisfied losing weight. It's just as Bayla describes in her email - no protein after lunch because protein gets in the way of your brain making serotonin and you need serotonin in the afternoon and evening when you're most likely to overeat. So try a snack of pretzels or crackers in the late afternoon. Then have mostly carbs like rice, potatoes, bread, and pasta for dinner with vegetables and you'll be much less likely to overeat. Eat your protein at breakfast and lunch. The diet is proven by research studies at MIT done by my co-author Judith Wurtman, PhD and she is an expert on food, mood, weight loss, and appetite with expertise with people on antidepressants.
Bayla, keep up the good work!
