To get disability for Bipolar disorder, is there a 'level of severity' that you have to have before you are qualified? Does Bipolar II count?

Then, if you go on disability is it like an admission that you're 'crazy', like if you're too mentally disabled to earn money through a job, then should you be 'stable/capable' enough to get pregnant and have a baby?

Last question, is it really 3 years of waiting for a decision when you apply? During that 3 years you can't work at all??? How are you suppose to feed yourself or have a place to live?

BP 2 counts, but it's the level of severity that's key and how it affects your day to living and ability to do

Xyro, you might want to drop by our Workers' Comp & SSDI board - the members and CL have lots of info on this topic

Hi Xyro,

I've never gone out on disability so I don't know exactly how it works. I have recently been forced out of my job temporarily though and found out I will only get administrative leave for 2 days - the day I saw the workers comp doc and the day that I will go for this stupid test I have to get to be cleared to go back to work. I feel I should be compensated for all the time I am forced to miss work as it was my employer who made me stop working, but they see it differently. So it goes. I'm trying to find someone to give me this test so I can start back to work asap.

It sounds like Marci gave you some pretty good advice and check out the site Cindi posted for you. They should both be helpful to you. At least more helpful than I am. I've never had to deal with it. I can only imagine the red tape that one has to go through to obtain it. I wish you luck. Keep us posted.

Hugs,
Traci
