Have you ever been treated "different" because you're bipolar?

I have had several instances of being treated differently because of bipolar, some positive, some negative. My very hot-tempered father tried really hard to hold his temper around me when I was first dxed. I also was kept on a job after I had had too much absences both in reference to my health condition and also because I was good at the job (I did eventually lose the job, though.)
I also lost two jobs when it was discovered on both that I had a mental illness.

This whole pregnancy has been an lesson it what it feels to be treated differently. My doctors are afraid to deal with me. My family doesn't know what to say or how to act. My dad is a particular problem, but that's probably because he's turned down proper treatment for his own problems for years and years, preferring to feel superior for his ability to "suck it up". My sister has been really cool though and DH is very supportive.
I find it trying because sometimes I don't know what to think about it myself, so seeing negative reactions in others can kind of set me off into the whole self-loathing thing.

Sadly, I and a friend have been seriously discrimated against by our medical doctor (same one).
