My "journal" was my diary, kept all through my teens into my twenties. I know some snotty people out there think a diary is not as good as a journal, but in there I was able to keep track of things going on and make judgements.

I quit the diary for good when I was 30. Don't know why. Maybe I'll start another.

Diary, journal - same thing. I don't know of any difference. ;-)

I have kept one, on and off, since I was a teenager. I find it helps me to get my thoughts down on paper, kind of a release for me. It also helps me to see when I am having my depressions. By looking back through several journals, or diaries, I was able to see that March is a major problem month for me. I also write poetry in mine and try to think of something from that day to write down that I am grateful for. It might be as simple as the sun came out, or I was able to accomplish something, or one of my kids called. Anything I can think of to be grateful for.
