Folks, I am in a bit of a tight spot. I have taken Geodon as my antipsychotic for five years, and it has worked great...with no weight gain that I could tell. But now, I am seeing a GP in Ontario, and Geodon is not for sale here (I believe it has yet to be approved by the Canadian FDA or something like that.)
SO, it looks like I'll have to start taking Zyprexa again. I worry, because I heard about a class action lawsuit involving Zyprexa and diabetes. Besides that, I think that drug has some weight gain with it that I remember.
Could anyone here elaborate on the risks of Zyprexa, involving diabetes, weight gain, and anything else that might come with it?

What I found on Zyprexa was a class action suit is being filed, just this week, due to extreme weight gain and diabetes. Whenever you want to check out a Rx'd, just google it. You'll find more than you want to know, most times. Good Luck. I wonder if Canada is slower to approve some drugs with good reason. I was on Serzone for a couple of years, now it's yanked from the market due to liver problems!

I have BP and live in Ontario. I was on zyprexa for 6 months and felt the side effects were not worth the benefits. It did not improve the BP and I begged to be taken off it. I felt frustrated because my brain could not remember, process, organize, etc. I felt disgusted because the weight gain was beyond my control. Once I was off it, the weight slowly came off. My doctor and I are still searching for another medication and are saddened by the supposedly successful American pharmaceuticals that are not allowed on this side of the border. Has anyone heard of something better than zyprexa? Take care, MC6
