OK I'm a little peaved at the moment because I typed up a post, and then poof, just like that it vanished! Saddest part is I fix computers for a living!!!
Anyway went to the pdoc yesterday and got my Lamictal increased from 300 to 400. Also got a Rx for Risperdal (sp?). Anyone know anything about this drug? What it does exactly, or at least what it's SUPPOSED to do? My pdoc said I could take it at night to help me sleep, unless it wakes me up, then take it in the morning (gee, that really narrows it down doesn't it?)
Well I was Dx with BP2 almost a year ago now. I feel like since my Dx that my hypomania was curbided for a while. Now it's slowly creeping back into my life. I'm doing crazy things again, feeling promiscuious, and really resisting the opportunity to settle down again. I know these things are bad for me, but are so much fun, that I don't want to stop. Hopefully taking the meds will help - that is if I can trick myself into wanting to take them at this point. I'm making H treat me like a little kid in that dept.
Funny story - Last weekend me and all my grandiosity decided to go down and try out for the Women's Professional football team. Yup, me. 5'5" 128 lbs went down and got knocked around by these women that were AT LEAST twice my size. I held my own and was very proud of myself, but lord have mercy on my thighs, calves, and my back, and my arms, and well yeah pretty much my entire body feels like it's been hit by a truck. I deserve it for being so stupid, and looking back laugh and realize it was because of my current state. Wow, I never thought I'd do things this nutty.
Anyway, anyone have any info on the Risperdal?
Thanks!

It does have some side effects to watch out for you should get a pamphlet with your meds.
Well I hope it helps ya.

Anyone taking it know what happens if you have a few beers that night, and skip the dose? We have some major events coming up this summer that I would like to enjoy having a beer or glass of wine at. So far with the Lamictal it hasn't been a huge issue, but I'm nervous about starting something new, and having terrible adverse effects because I wanted to have a drink. No info on their web site about anything like that.
Okay, I got to be the old Mother Hen here and remind you that drinking with any psych meds is NOT a good idea.
Marci, I have a question about the whole alcohol thing. I am currently on Depakote. I find that if I drink, I get sleepy after one or two. Do you think it could be doing other damage to me?
Dawn
Thanks so much for the information. That's kind of what I thought, but wanted to check with someone who had more experience. My own actual mother has given me the same speech, as well as my pdoc. Relistacly though there is no way that I will never have another drink again. I have pulled in the reins though from the way I used to be, because as fun as it may be, I usually wind up regretting my actions in the morning.
I also rememered the other med that I was prescribed. It's Lexapro. My girlfriend who is a Psyc nurse told me yesterday that she couldn't believe they Rx'd that to me as that has a tendancy to make manics fly off the deep end. I haven't started taking it yet. What are your thoughts on Lexapro?
PS - I'm taking a VERY small dosage of Risperdal - .5mg
Thanks for all your advice and support, as always!
Jenn
Dawn,
My home PDR says that Dapakote suppresses the activity of the central nervous system and that alcohol may increase that affect.
Jenn,
I personally love Lexapro, although the dose I take is a small one combined with Wellbutrin (another AD) & Lithium (mood stabilizer).
However a couple of drinks once in a while won't hurt you.
You still have to take your meds no matter what they will not work other wise.
That is also a reason not to become a regular drinker alcohol makes you depressed witch makes your meds useless.
best of luck to ya.
