I am falling apart (physically)

Just got two calls back to back--first from the clinic where I am doing the research study on the cholesterol med, they just got add'l lab results back, now I not only have elevated liver enzymes, but indicators of early stage kidney disease--most likely a result of my diabetes not being taken seriously by my doctor and so left untreated.

Marci,
I know it never ends does it. I know you don't want to go off lithium and I truely understand, but lithium is very bad for people with kidney problems and if they are seeing kidney disease starting than lithium is not a good med to be on. I will only take a low dose of it myself because I have a bad kidney. I will not go any higher than 600 mgs. Drink lots of water to flush out your kidneys everyday. Divide your weight by 2 and that is how many oz's of water you should get per day. I know I have a hard time getting in water. I am working on that and have done real well the past couple of days.
Hang in there and I hope all turns out ok. Maybe they can re run the test and come up with better numbers. If you have diabetes cut way down on your carbs and stay away from sweets. I know this you already know and it is easier said than done but your health and lab results are telling you drastic measures need to be done. Good luck and hang in there.
I know my medicare pays for a nutritionist if you have diabetes. I think you should think about checking into that to help with meal planning and stuff. I had to pay out of pocket for the one I have now because I don't have diabetes and my surgeon made me use his nutritionist in his office who doesn't take health insurance anyway.
Please keep us posted on how this is all going.

I sure don't have to worry about drinking enough water--the Lithium and most of my asthma/allergy meds dry my mouth out so I'm drinking water constantly--I even manage to go through 1 1/2-2 8oz bottles of water during the night!
Part of my problem is my GP didn't consider me as having diabetes only pre-diabetes based on a test where they check your fasting glucose, then you eat a big meal and they check it again.
