Hi. First of all I am really sad and mad at this person. I have thought for a while he probably has some kind of mental illness. A friend of mine who is a counselor thought he might be bipolar. From reading a little bit, I think he might be too. He told me he sees shadows. He has been completely depressed and also told me his mind races in million different directions and can't sleep. He is also an incest survivor and was in the war about four years ago. Sometimes he acts and says he loves me. He makes all these plans for us. The next minute I catch him in a lie and he does something to completely sabatoge us hanging out. He comes and goes out of my life. He is very secretive about things. He doesn't want anyone to touch his food or drinks. He has trust issues, but way beyond a normal level of trust issues. He is moody and unpredictable. He forgets what he is saying, sometimes in the middle of a conversation. He has told me himself he thinks he is losing his mind. I know I thought maybe it was PTSD too. I really feel like emotionally I have been dragged through the mud this past week with him. He pulls me in and pushes me away.

If you can help with any information I would appreciate it.

Your friend needs to see a psychiatrist and a therapist. It does sound like he is suffering from mental illness and possibly it is bipolar but I am not a doctor. Your friend needs help and he can get that help with meds and talking with a professional to help him through his problems. Will your friend be willing to get this help? If so maybe you can help him set these appointments up. I don't usually tell people to help someone else set up appointments and all but it sounds like he could use the help and guidance on these and also remeinders of his appointment time at first to get started. I hope he is willing to get him self the help so he can live a more stable life and happier one. It definately takes alot out of those caring about someone with mental illness.

Sorry you and your friend are going through such a hard time right now.

Keep us posted.

Let me echo Tina's comments about him needing to see a psychiatrist and therapist.

I have to agree with Marci and Tina. Getting him to seek professional help would be the best idea if you can convince him to do so. From what you have described it does ring that familiar bell of bipolar, but again I'm not a pdoc or a tdoc. He would be best served if he could get into the VA as Marci suggested, but again agreeing with Marci, if the wait is too long he would be best served by a private pdoc and tdoc.

Sorry I couldn't be much more help than what's already been stated. Keep us posted and post here as often as you want to.

Hugs,
Traci
