those who take Lamictal...

Does it knock you on your butt? The first day i took it...even though it was only 25mgs, by time i got home, i couldn't keep my eyes open....i felt like I'd taken a huge dose of benadryl or something...

DH thinks it has something to do with the fact that we got up at like 10 til 6am...that might be true....but i don't think being tired from getting up early would make me feel the way i did....

I mean, when I actually fell asleep that night, i was laying there, on my side, and I was trying to move my foot, but i couldn't..it felt like there was a ton of bricks on it...DH says i was probably already asleep, but i could still hear him, and everything else going on around me...

Anyway, when do you guys take it? I was thinking I would take it when i get home from work tonight(around 930ish)...that way, if it is what's making me so zonked, I wouldn't feel the effects at work....or on the way to work, like driving me and my 3 yr old...

TIA
Nessa

One of the side effects of Lamictal is drowsiness. I didn't notice it with the first dose of 25 mg a.m. and 25 mg p.m, but when I upped the morning dose with the second 25 mg I noticed some drowsiness which passed in a couple of weeks. I couldn't handle the third 25 mg in the morning though so I am only taking 50 mg in the a.m. and 75 mg in the p.m.

I would say take it in the p.m. just before you go to bed as it sounds like you are particularly sensitive to Lamictal.

I always take mine when I go to bed because it caused such sleepiness in me too. Must be one of the few side-effects this drug has.

I had a really hard time with drowsiness when I first started taking it - just like you. Every time I upped the dose I'd get extremely drowsy again. It finally went away after a while. I think, though, that I'm going to start taking it at night like everyone else because it still makes me a bit drowsy.

I'm not sure to be honest I take mine in the afternoon ( I work nights) about an hour or so before I take the Seroquel . But that would make sense on why when I took it for the 1st time las week I got so messed up lol. I have been on it before and I *think* it did at 1st but over time it went away. I start week 3 next week ( 25mgs twice a day) so I'll have to watch it ....
