Here's a quick background: I Have had depression since around 10 or 11 and have always been a very moody person. Last January I crashed into a deep dark depression that left me so desperate I drove to the emergency room to find help (They just sent me on my way with an Rx for Wellbutrin,

BP is SOOOOOOO much more than just the cycling itself....the pdoc's dx book is entirely to restrictive anyway. BP is actually better dx'd through family history (IMHO) than through "meeting" what the pdoc's book says.

While your friend may be "triggering" your manic's you are probably bp yourself and need to get yourself stabilized as well. In a family with three bp's, it is SOOOO easy for us to trigger each other, but with us being somewhat stabilized it is not as bad as it was. DS and I used to have some pretty spectacular explosions at each other between our hard headedness and the untreated bp.

Good luck and try and get a good family history together....don't just look for other mood disorders, look for drug and alcohol abuse, a family member that everyone says had a hair trigger temper, or was "just kinda always like that". After talking with my mom extensively after DS was dx'd, we have come to a working theory that my mom is very likely eobp and one of my brothers is bp as well.

Yeah I don't even remember the pdoc asking about family history but its full of alcoholism, drug addicts, and one uncle committed suicide and an aunt attempted it (both are on my moms side) as well as some of her other siblings that showed alot of 'odd' behaviour and were very violent. Out of my mom's 9 siblings, I would say 6 have some sort of mental health issue. Thanks for mentioning this, I will be sure to mention it to my Dr. :)
