I basically told him that I didn't care anymore what it cost, but I had to find something that was going to work for me. The mania is better, but only partially. The depression isn't even better that much. He prescribed me Invega...has anyone heard of it? It's supposedly once a day without alot of the side effects of some of the other meds. He's also going to be eventually taking me off of the Depakote because he thinks we can find something more effective.
I hate taking these things, but if I gotta, I at least want to take meds and dosages that work. I was encouraged to hear that he thinks that is possible for me.

I had to go look it up since this was a new one for me. It's an antipsychotic, the newest one on the market. It apparently does have a significant risk of heart attack, especially in older patients. I'm assuming you have no significant risk of hearth problems if your doc prescribed this.
The drug is actually a liver by-product of risperidone (called "paliperidone") isolated in a laboratory and packaged in an extended-release form. Thus, patients who ingest the original medication, risperidone, produce therapeutic quantities of paliperidone through normal liver metabolism.

Make sure you talk to your pharmacists about it!
I am unable ot give legal or medical advice. My opinions are based on my experiences and my personal research.
That Depakote was evil stuff for me. It worked great but made me gain a bunch of weight. I've never heard of the other medication. I switched from Depakote to Lamictal with no problems. I have a pretty good cocktail now - only a few small complaints. It *is* possible for the meds to work and work well. My BP is pretty much under control. yeah!

Dawn,
That's a new one for me--I'll have to check it out.
