Abilify vs Seroquel

Pdoc lowered my dosage of Abilify again because it was making me shake and get physically agitated (shaking my leg, clicking my nails, etc). I hope 5mg will be enough. First, has anyone else had this problem with Abilify? I think the abilify was mainly for paranoia and possibly to prevent mania. Why are others taking it? He talked about putting my on Seroquel instead but I'm leery of that because of the weight gain. I still haven't lost the weight from Depakote. Has anyone had big weight gain issues with Seroquel. Does it work as well? Are there any other unpleasant side effects?
Thanks,
Morgaine

Hi Morgaine,
I take Abilify for mania/mixed episodes. When I first started taking it and hit the 10mg dose, I became very restless and agitated. We decreased the dose to 5mg and I started to get manic again. So, we upped the dose back to 10mg but added 100mg of Topamax along with it and now I am fine- no longer restless and agitated like I was. I had been on Topamax before, by itself, and it did nothing for me but combined with the Abilify, it is helping a lot.
I don't know if that is helpful or not, but that is my experience with Abilify.
Hugs,
Peg
The
Seroquel was very sedating. I had to have 10 hours of sleep to not feel groggy for a few hours after I woke up. I still had weight to lose after Depakote and Zyprexa made me huge. I had the hardest time lossing weight but I didn't gain anymore while on Seroquel.
