Hello Everybody,
I was searching internet for support on RPL. I lost my first pregnancy a little over a year ago (April 2010) at 6 weeks. I am sure you all know how excited we were... Anyway, we moved on and, after a year, we decided to try again. My period usually is 28 days (+/- 1 day). The first month we were trying to get pregnant it came too early and was on and off for almost 7 days. Next period came 3 days late and was just a little lighter than usual. Well, we thought it didn't work again meaning we didn't get pregnant after 2 month and it wasn't that big of a deal until, a week later,
My m/c were like yours- 1st at 7.5 weeks, 2nd just never got off the ground and I never would have prob. known but for preg. tests since I started bleeding so early on and never had a chance for a u/s. After a third m/c and more tests the best answer I got was really bad luck and while there is nothing wrong DH and I just have a higher % of babies who aren't meant to make it, good news us I am almost 13 weeks pregnant again w/ no signs of any problems yet.
Hang in there and see how much the tests your insurance won't cover are and if you can work something out with your dr to pay for them if you feel you need them.
Rhishi, thank you so much for your answer! I am so happy to hear that you are doing good now!!! Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep us posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My insurance doesn't cover:
- Thrombophilia Panel (for me and my husband) - $171
- Pregnancy Loss Panel - $823
- SDIA (Sperm Analysis) - $500
Are the prices about the same as you paid?
They do cover AMH and HSN/Uterine Flowstudy. I got the last one done yesterday and it was all good (thank God!). We decided to see the results of this tests and kind of go from there. We want to jump on TTC next month again and hoping for a better luck!
My new doctor doesn't think anything is wrong with my hormones and doesn't want to check it. Should I be concerned?
Did anybody ever tried Vitex (chasteberry)? I heard so much about it but I am a little scared trying it because it might trigger my migraines.
I'm sorry for your losses...Welcome to the board.
Hi there,
I'm sorry you find yourself in the position of seeking out this board, but I'm glad you are here too because it is a very supportive group. That's great news that your HSN/Uterine Flowstudy went well! :smileyhappy:
I'll be honest, I think all of the tests that your insurance doesn't cover could be important....your losses could be related to any one of those things or a combination of them...or the tests may not show anything...in any event, you'll have more information one way or the other than you have now. When to do them though, that is up to you. Technically, many Drs will tell you that 2 first trimester losses don't constitute recurrent pregnant loss (though I disagree!). They will argue that m/c is so common and there may not be anything wrong at all and you have just had bad luck (which could very well be true). I insisted on the pregnancy loss panel after my 2nd loss. I had one loss at 8 weeks after heartbeat, then had a chemical pregnancy (at 5 weeks), then had another loss at 6 weeks (no heartbeat ever detected), and then one more chemical at 4 weeks. My guess is that I had other chemical pregnancies which I didn't even know about before I started being monitored. My RE kept telling me that this was all due to poor egg quality due to low ovarian reserve (at the age of 29 mind you). To my RE's surprise, the RPL panel showed a whole slew of things-a mutation of MTHFR, borderline antiphospholipid sydrome, a mutation of the PAI-1 gene. A lot of times, people don't even know they were pregnant because the loss occurs so early on-sometimes (like we believe in my case-I have high anticardiolipins) anticoagulation can be at play. Factors such as high natural killer cell activity (another thing I have-if your Dr believes in NK leading to miscarriage and tests for it, I highly recommend doing so) can also end pregnancies very early on.
I agree with Kellty & Adrianna - nothing ever came of my results, but if I hadn't had the testing done that I did I would still be wondering if something wasn't wrong (I still wonder that) - There were a few tests in the RPL panel that my doctor ran, but didn't think were necessary and those were the ones my insurance didn't cover. Can you see if your doctor can write to your insurance on your behalf to advocate for them to cover more testing? In my case my insurance woudn't cover fertility drugs or IUI/IVF because I hadn't been ttc for long enough (according to them) despite the recurrent miscarraiges and after a letter from my doctor they agreed to cover portions sooner because of medical history/necessity?
Also maybe see if there is another doctor that would be more willing to work with you at this point - I was lucky that my OBs reffered me to a specalist after 2 m/c (2nd being a chemical at 5 weeks) when most won't until there are three m/c with a confirmed heartbeat. Some doctors are a little more proactive than others.
Good luck!
Rhiannon
Just a little update...
I am not so "new to this" anymore since it's been 7 months, many forums, doctors, books, etc. We have been ttc'ing but nothing happened... It is crazy how many friends and family members got pregnant during this time...
