And does she really think taking a bubble bath is going to cure bipolar disorder?

I certainly am not making light of your control freak therapist but that comment brought a smile to my face.

Is that lady some kind of freak or what? Sounds like she is really the one who should be in some sort of therapy!!!haha

Obviously she needs to have a refresher course (or whatever kind of training those people do) on bp. Does she really think making demands is going to get her anywhere with anyone in that situation? She is obviously in the wrong profession. I hope you were able to work things out and get a different therapist or appointment or something.

Are you in a mandatory program? None of my business...just because you mentioned her calling the police or whatever..

Anyway, even if she did, you certainly don't have to work with someone who isn't facilitating your needs. If a therapist wants you to study reading materials, you obviously aren't going to spend the time you are supposed to be using for "talk therapy" to "read." I hope things are going better.....

P.S. I wish I had thought of taking a bubble bath, I could have been cured years ago!!!

I admire your spunk! I had a tdoc I didn't conect with 5 years ago but back then I was shy and didn't speak up, went through with seeing her for 6 mo. once my ptoc had me controlled on my meds I stopped seeing her.

This time I broke I had a wonderful guy (believe he was a minister), he was actually the one who moved out of state and well then I stopped cause I knew there would be nobody that could replace him at the time. My pdoc & tdocs are all out of a Catholic hospital so the urge to swear I always try to hold back. However many times I would love to say WTF!

If you wanted to see a new tdoc before your next pdoc appt you could call and talk to her/him and request a new one. I wouldn't worry about affending the old one, if you don't click you don't click and you get nothing from your therapy. I don't think unless you are threatening to harm your self or others they can come get you, that would just be crazy.

Good luck - keep us posted

I think after a point therapy is just a waste of time. I wish their were groups of BP's who would meet just to socialize. Like Jazznperyc said- after years of therapy and self help books- what more can be said?

I agree with you that there is only so much therapy but like for me way out here in the hills I am sure there are not enough people for a group or if you have anxiety on top of it like me and can't drive very far what do you do?

I really enjoy these boards, they are a great help to me whether I am imputting or just listening. I think a live chat would be awsome so you could either join in that of post a message. That way if you want to vent/ramble you can or if you really need to tlk right away you could.

I went to an outpatient program for bipolars and schizophrenics once.

At this point, I don't want "therapy" in the sense of thinking it's going to cure me.

That is all I want is a tdoc to just listen and let me vent. I am pretty lucky that I have that. She knows I already have enough, more than enough knowledge of my illness and what has to be done when and all that.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with that dip ship tdoc. You did the right thing getting away from her.

I use to go to a BP group that met on thursday evenings. It was cool because everyone knew what everyone else was feeling and going through. It wasn't "therapy", it was friends getting together to talk and get crap out. They changed the location and night and I was in school and couldn't make it and then I never went back.

They would have cookouts and stuff like that too that I went to a few times even after I stopped the meetings.

Hopefully your pdoc can make some suggestions of people to see or maybe you can just see your pdoc for both meds and therapy.

Good luck and keep us posted on how your pdoc appt goes. and with this situation.

Tina
