Ha You must have caught our weather system. Yesturday we had avalanches that closed off the Peninsula. One was 18 feet long and 40 feet high filled with trees and debris that took until 3pm today to clear out.The roads are still trecherous and chains are required at higher elevations. There will be further blasting for avalanche control in the coming days that will also close the roads temperarily. At times there was snow falling 1 foot every 15 minutes in some areas.
My DH used to call me from states like Tennessee or Kentucky where they had to close down the whole state because they just don't have the equipment or the manpower to keep the roads open during a snowfall of more than a few inches. It was pretty funny for us, but for the folks who live there and never drove in snow before, it is a dangerous and scary experience and the accidents are unreal. Even up here folks who should know better still go way too fast and do not clear their windshields or drive defensively and watch for folks turning or moose on the highway. Most folks do not know how to drive or behave as if there is an emergency ahead. For professional truck drivers, there are a lot of scary stories out there.
Are you ready for the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics? I've got my snacks and couch all ready, Where will you be tonight?
Sending some warming hugs over the pond to all of you who have got the unexpected snow!! Glad that Aaron got to play snowballs - so much fun for you all!!
And shiny, did you get to see the opening ceremony? I saw most of it live on Friday evening, and haven't manged to catch much of the actual action yet, tvs in this home were tuned to Rugby Union yesterday!!
I got excited today because we had snow flurries! How pitiful is that? I know our northern friends think that's crazy, but I just love to watch the snow fall.
