I know how weight makes you more depressed. The Zyprexa is probably the biggest culpret with your weight gain. Everyone's body chemistry is different, but Zyprexa almost always makes people gain so much weight and has been known to cause diabetes. You have every right to ask your pdoc to switch meds so you won't keep gaining weight.

Seroquel and Abilify have been the ones that I have heard of less weight gain. I am not sure if they cause no weight gain at all but you can ask your pdoc about them.

Maybe others here who have taken other anti-psychotics can give you more feedback on their experience.

But be sure to talk to your pdoc about it on Tuesday.

Hang in there.

Hi,

I am BP-nos so I am not sure really what catagory my med falls under. It has been used for seizures. Carbatrol is the name of mind, it is a time release formular of Carbamazepine a.k.a Tegretol. My pdoc started me on this one as I ws already 70 lbs over weight. I have been on it since June 28th and have only gained 5 lbs however I have not started to change my eating habits or my physical activity level. Also I am on Wellbutrin & Paxil for 6-7 yrs now.

Best of luck and please let us know what your doc says.

Stacy,

Have to agree about the Zyprexa being the cause of your weight gain, it's a pretty common side effect as well as the risk for diabetes and weight gain then just increases that even more.

FYI - when one is tired one should not read a reply like yours. Had to read it 3 times to make any sence. That short term memory thing, forgot what I had asked earlier and was wondering why you were telling me Been there done that.

Have a good night

Stacy,

Sorry i could be too late but I'm new here. My Doc found out I was Insuline intolerant. First time I heard of it. It's like you have a key to the cells but in me my key doesn't work. That's how it was explained to me. I was put on metphormin, (not saying your intolerant but it's worth a shot)I also take seroquil. Since using the metphorman I am slowly VERY SLOWLY, losing weight but I am working my A -- off.

good luck
