good - and easy - salad recipe/dressing?

hey there,

I'm new to to these forums. I registered here cause I want to get into cooking - and I think here are the people that can help me :) Having moved out things get - well let's say things are not so easy anymore when you have to cook for yourself instead of just having to sit down at the table ;)

So, I want to make myself a good salat sometimes. I don't want it to be a "boring" one though - you know only the salad with the dressing. Are there any easy but somehow special variations that I could try out? And also, are there any easy selfmade dressings to fit with them? I don't really want to buy a dressing cause they don't fit my taste too often.

I also made a blog about recipes (http://lostchef.hobbies.homepagenow.com) - well not really a blog it seems that you get some all-in-one solution there - that I want to fill up with some content soon. If I would be allowed to use the recipes that anyone here can contribute it would be great :)

MMMmmmm Halloumi!!! My DS used to call it "squeaky cheese" when he first had it in Cyprus aged about 4 or 5. That combination with the chicken sounds a great one, we love it with bacon here, or just griddled on it's own, will ahve to try it with some chicken next time.

If you open a chicken fillet, push in a little halloumi and wrap with bacon and then bake in the oven until done, you have heaven on a plate.

Welcome to the board, Lostchef!

This is an awesome spot on the web for all sorts of food questions..nothing is stupid or too strange to ask about! I know I've asked a few silly ones myself and I've gotten awesome answers!

I'm lousy at making my own salad dressings, but I do love pesto on my salads! It's a new thing for me..and I love it! You can make pesto yourself, and it lasts quite a while or you can buy it...

It seems most of the basic salad ingredients have been said..but really, a salad is anything you want it to be! I love a basic salad with a bit of chicken in it.. or I'll even toss in left over spaghetti noodles and hamburger (no sauce) so that my salad is more prominent than the noodles and meat. :)

I also love sunflower seeds, cashews, pasta, cheese and I can't think of anything else now. *blush* Some people like fruits in their salads.. I prefer to have my non-sweet salad stuff separate from my sweet stuff.. but fruit salads are delicious too!

I don't know if it is even possible to go wrong with with salad as long as you like what's in it! Experiment and enjoy!

Hope to see you around more!

hey there, thanks for sooo many replies over the weekend. Wouldn't have thought that this would be so good. I posted the two salad dressing recipes from the first answer on my site, I hope that this is alright with you?

I also tried out the first one and wow it tasted good :) Now I have to try out something else - because it really seems to be easy when you have fun while cooking. Probably something easy to cook but yet tasty. Gonna search for another thread here :)

WooHoo! Yes, cooking can be fun! And yummy!

When you cook for yourself, it is much easier to make a recipe for 2 or more and then freeze what you don't eat that day or the next day.

Although, not all things freeze nicely..that's just something you have to experiment with or ask. *wink*

I hope you find more recipes you love, there's a million and then some out there!

And never hesitate to ask here either.

yeah I've experienced this before, that cooking for one person just isn't really worth it. But I don't mind to eat twice from a meal so thats not the issue :)

As I do love chicken, a recipe with chicken - warm meal - will be the next thing to look for :)
