LOL! Hanna....this was too funny! what a good idea for some fun with your friends ;) In my city we have a place called Chester's Beers of the World and there we can try anything and everything! It's so much fun! I need to go there soon ...I haven't been in a few years. I often will buy one or two bottles of beer from the liquor store that we have never tried just for fun. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are yucky, but we always have a good time tasting and making comments about the bottle and the label too.

I'm a relatively recent beer drinker - couldn't touch the stuff until 1998, the year of the huge economic crisis (nightmare, really). Suddenly, alcohols became extremely expensive (and they have remained expensive compared to Europe or Australia). Everything except beer, especially the locally made ones. Hah! I taught myself to like the stuff.
I love Irish beer! One of my flatmates in Florence was Irish and one of our hang-outs was, of course, the Irish pub nearby. Unfortunately a Guiness is just too heavy for Asia, and the Irish pubs I've been to in Singapore don't carry Harp. However, they do have Kilkenny, so that kind of offsets the disappointment about Harp. Let's forget discussing different types of beers in Jakarta - there aren't that many choices at all. I'll keep a lookout for Swedish beer, tho! Can't wait to try it. Haven't had anything Swedish in a very long time - the last time it was fermented herring and... well... that was a very memorable evening lol.
I haven't had fermented herring since I was five even though my parents eat once or twice every August. Mom is form the Fermented herring part of Sweden but I have never learned to love it, I stick to meatballs and potatoes and while they eat smelly fish!
So where in the world are you??
We have tried Indian beer, it is so not good not even with curries.
The fermented herring I tried in Italy. I have a friend who is a mad Swede in addition to being a mad artist, so you can imagine what the result is. He made us try fermented herring one summer day, and we were extremely aware how the wind was blowing that evening (we were eating in the garden). I have to say that it's not that bad once eaten, but trying to eat and not smell what you are eating - both at the same time - is a tedious experience ;-) Other than that, I love fresh herring. It's been years since I had fresh herring but yum!
We have three brands of beer here, Bintang, Anker and Bali Hai. All are pilsners. Bintang is probably the most popular and it does hit the spot on a very hot and sunny day. Similar to a Heineken. I don't remember what an Anker tastes like. I haven't tried Bali Hai yet. Hmm... something to do next week!

Next time you have a beer tasting, try some Irish beer....BF and I love Guinness, Harp, and Smithwick's.

Yep, Coors is not beer, it is NEAR BEER. I drink 5.9% Ice beer from Milwaukee Best (let me get cl-cheryl in here to testify about it).
I do love Guinness but we don't get Harp or Smithwicks, instead we have Kilkenny, Beamish, Caffrey and Murphy's Irish Stout
I want beer to taste beer not water , the same thing with stout, ale and lager.
