I am not cooking Christmas dinner this year but I sure as heck will be next year!
We will be going to BF's sister's house out-of-town on the 25th. My sister is sick with bronchitis and is just having my father stay over at her place...also out-of-town. We celebrated with dad last night :)
Anyways, BF's sister is vegetarian like us, although her husband is not and her children do eat fish. The problem there is that when we come over they decide to clean out their fridge(there is a ton of outdated stuff in there) and we usually end up feeling very sick. Just for insurance I've made a vegetable lasagna to take but how we are going to manage to get around eating her food I just don't know.
Last time we ate there in September we (BF his mom and me) all felt really sick on the way home.We had to stop at his Uncle's apartment on the way home so mom could use the washroom and then we took her home and then we felt sick and to top it all off our car broke down and we had to wait for the tow truck. Not a pleasant experience to have cramps and feel like you are going to throw up while waiting for the tow truck in the dark on the side of a secondary highway at the top of a big hill.
We managed to avoid Thanksgiving because BF had the flu...

This is why next year I will be making the dinner at our place. This way we wont have to drive all over the place either. We will gladly cook meat for whoever wants it.I have no problem cooking a turkey, ham, roast whatever. I NEED to drink wine!LOL! I'm usually teh designated driver so for once I would like to have drink or two and not worry.

I'm with you all the way on the no sugar! that is just way too much! I would have been in a coma if I ate that much sweet stuff.
As it turns out we were not poisoned terribly but we did suffer some really bad intestinal cramping and a bit of the runs...Ack!
We had some sort of curried veggie/lentil soup that was as thick as a porridge. Boiled mini red potatoes (that was pretty safe), boiled brussels sprouts, red rice casserole with broccoli and cheese and more red rice with beans....did I mention I had serious gas issues after this meal?LOL!
There were assorted roasted meats and desserts for those who wanted them too.
Next year...our place...I don't care if I have to cook for 30 people. I hate feeling like this.
I had nightmares all night too!

In Sweden we used salt, so every dish we have for Christmas is bit salty.
