Hi,

I too have never heard of this patch. Is it the patch that is keeping you awake at night? Has you pdoc said that you wouldn't be able to sleep as well with this patch. I too am on Lamictal, plus Nueurton, Oxiapam, and Cymbalta at night. I am impressed and curious about that you feel like a new you. That is so awsome. Good for you. I hope all goes well with you, besides the sleeping problem, which I have as well, you would think with all the meds we take at night we would be able to sleep, you sound like your happy with this patch. Is that correct? Have a good one.

Hi Julie,

I have been up since 12:30am again, I am hoping that you are asleep. I wish that I was, but I find that I have the most energy this early in the morning. As I said I am only on 25mg. of Lamictal. Did your pdoc have you start off at 25mg, and increase it by 25mg every 2wks? How did you feel as you increased? 400mg that's quite a high dose IMHO(in my humble opinion). Some taught me what IMHO means, so I now use it a lot. I just took the time to look up what an EMSAM patch is. I found out that it is named after the doctors children, Emily, and Samuel, pretty cool. Also I didn't know that is was a MAOI, I didn't even know that MAOI's came in a patch form. From what I read because MAOI's can cause severe hypertension, you have to be very careful with the foods you eat, over the counter med. and some other stuff. It also said that if your ENSAM patch is 6mg. you don't have to worry about what you eat, as far as dietary problems causing hypertension. But once you go over the 6mg, like to the 9mg patch than you have the dietary restrictions. I don't know if I got all that right, but it sure was interesting to read up on. I am curious if you have been on the 6mg patch, and if so could you still eat cheese, and not get the "cheese syndrome"? Do you still have to be careful with foods that contain tyramine rich foods? The reason I ask this is b/c I have been on soooo..... many anti-depressants since I was 19, and I'm 49 now, and the only one that worked for me was Prozac, and it only worked for about 2-3mos. Than I was off, and on to another one. I swear the only time I have been off of anti-depressants was when I was pregnant with my 3 children and during breastfeeding. So really after 30yrs. No anti-depressant has really worked for me. My new pdoc. says that I have resistant depression(I think that is what it is called), it's described as when you have taken at least 3 different anti-depressants to the max. dose, and they still don't work. So that is why I am so curious about the EMSAM patch, maybe that would be something I could ask my pdoc about. I have always been to scared to even try a MAOI, because of the food, and o/c med. problems. Also is it the EMSAM that is causing you not to sleep? And how long have you been on the EMSAM patch? I know a lot of questions, but enquiring minds want to knowLOL. I hope all goes really well for you at your pdoc appt. today, and that it is the last of the sleepless nights. I want to be able to sleep as well, so you have taught me something. Take care, and good luck.

Julie, yes you did answer most of my questions. I'm glad things worked out for you at the pdoc, and am so happy for you that your life is going well. TY for all the information on EMSAM Patch, I too learned a lot. Maybe someday will get the nerve to give it a try, since other anti-depressants don't seem to work. Anyway, good luck with the increase, keep us posted on how it goes.

He didnt up the dose at all today he is scared it will throw me into mania and is a bit scared cause of all the side effects of the food thing since on the 6mg patch you dont have to worry. he upped my geodon and the temazepam to 30mg at night. Since i am doing ok except for the sleeping thing he opted not to up it right now we will see how i am doing in 4 weeks when i see him back. Thanks for checking back in iwth me. good luck to you also thank you.
