BF Baby hard to satisfy in the evening?
| Tue, 08-09-2011 - 3:29pm |
Hi all. My son just turned five months old today. I used to just be able to nurse him and put him to bed, but over the past few weeks, it hasn't been so easy. It seems that I just don't have enough milk at that particular moment to satisfy him, although I know I have plenty overall. Sometimes I might have to nurse for 45-60 minutes before he's satisfied enough to go to bed. Any tips?
My DS used to "power feed" before bedtime. He would nurse 2-3 times 45mins. apart and would be more spaced out during the day. Do you pump any? Using some supply at night might help or you can try adding a little formula. Have you started solids or cereal yet? Maybe its time to...get his belly full?
Five months is prime time for distractible babies.

Thanks so much for stopping by the board (and how is it possible that your baby is five months old already?!?). The pediatric experts will be by the board soon to answer your questions. Thanks!

I wish I had the perfect answer for you, but I will address a few possibilities and then you can decide which one seems to make sense for your situation.
Has your daytime schedule changed or are you feeling particularly stressed? Have you gone back to work?
My little ds just turned 1 and I already miss those early nursing days!
I actually taught my older son to cluster nurse in the evenings in order to help him sleep a longer stretch at night.
I suspect that SOME cases of "colic" in the evenings are just babies wanting to cluster nurse, but not getting fed because they just fed an hour ago.
