Baking Blows.....

Or Maybe I blow.....We have a bread-maker so I figured that I would go the cheap route and just bake some bread like in the good old days. I mean, that's what mother nature intended for me to do, else she would not have invented the "Oster" brand bread maker. :)

Anyway, so I come across a recipe for Coffee Cake, which I love.....the icing tasted real good - who knew Milk, Sugar and Vanilla Extract could do such wonders, certainly not I. So I went the rest of the way to make the bread.....

I don't know exactly where it all went to hell at but I followed the directions to a T. I read and re-read them. It said to pat the "dough" into a pan once the Machine finishes with it.....problem is mine was not a "dough" at all, more like Campbell's soup. But I ventured onward! Because that ICING DON'T LIE. I put the rest of the toppings together, "Immersed" not spread, them into the soupy wonder and put it in the oven.

I took some time for it to harden and become bread but it just tastes like chewy sugar I think. I mean, it's pretty good I suppose - if like eating 200 grams of sugar a pop. But that's what it called for.

Anyway. That's my story for this evening, I hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers!

You know, I think that you may be onto something there. I'm no cook but I certainly can pull off a meal if I need to; even more so if there are directions involved :)

But baking.....even with the instructions it didn't come out right. It used yeast in the ingredients.....

I'm glad it's not that way with other things....you know maybe I know how to ride a bike but I cannot for the life of me drive a car.

Thanks.

Wait, I seem to of missed this "And my famous Killer Cinnamon Rolls..."

I have a challenge for you, or well maybe not a challenge not like a dual anyway. :D There is this brand of "honey bun" called Mrs Freshley's Grand Honey bun....some people mistake these delicious pieces of heaven for less "quality" knock offs by such vendors as Blue Bird and my GOD the Blue Bird in this area....I have been EVERYWHERE looking for these things, and no one has them. When I ask about them or maybe ordering them they just look at me funny,....you know, smile and nod at the crazy American from not here.

You know us City Folk get no respect....if only they knew that I am an American Indian (although I disagree with the American moniker) Anyway I am getting off track, I have been as far out as 50 miles, no dice.

I went as far as to email the company about my dilema of only being able to find these things in the southern regions. They were real nice and mentioned checking with the sales in the area......but even the company got the brand wrong and I had to re-email them with the UPC of the correct honey bun, to which I have had no reply. ahhhh such is life.

SO, I said all that to say this.....a Honey Bun as far as I can tell is a roll or cinnamon roll with icing on top. Now I know we cannot always make it like the big boys do....you know, like you just can't make the pizza the way Papa John's does - not to say you cannot make a killer pie.....I think you know what I mean.....

Can you direct me to a recipe of making a roll and I think with either the icing that I made last night or (if I'm lucky) using the one that you mentioned.

That would be great!
This is the Honey Bun that I am talking about. Top right.

Grand Honey Bun
Size: 6 oz
UPC: 072250007658

And in case you were un-sure before YES I LOVE THIS FRIGGIN Honey BUN! They will be the death of me, all you will find is me, surrounded by empty Honey Bun wrappers.......

Thanks!

Funny, Honey Buns must be VERY regional indeed, I find recipes for honey bun CAKE, but not honey buns.

I'm so sorry to hear your coffee cake recipe didn't turn out well! I love to bake and I guess I am decently good at it..but then I like cooking ok enough, but I would say I am decent there too. So I guess my mediocre-ness in both allows me to do both ok. LOL

Here is my coffeecake recipe that you just can't fail with. It is so easy and yummy!!! You can make the basic recipe or add fruits to it so easily..

Bake at 300F for 30min or until toothpick comes out clean
(pan size is about 9x14, I can't remember exact measurements, but it is a decent size)

Basic recipe:
Mix: 1 1/2 cup sugar, 1 stick (that's 1/2 cup) soft margarine/butter, 2 eggs
Stir in: 1 cup milk
Mix in: 1T + 1tsp baking powder (=4tsp), 1tsp salt, 3 cups flour

Streusel topping:
Mix all together: 1 cup packed brown sugar, 4T flour, 4tsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup melted margarine, 1 cup walnuts.

If you want to add berries (ex. blueberry or raspberry) add 2 cups frozen fruit and another 1/2 cup flour.

When making the basic recipe, I'll put 1/3 of the recipe in the pan, add some streusel topping and then the rest of the basic recipe and on top the rest of the streusel (or as much as you want)
The streusel can be frozen for later use.

GOD BLESS YOU!

I love Coffee Cake, I think I am going to try this out this Sunday. The one that I made before had chopped Pecans on top. I had no idea that you could put fruit in there.....that opens up a whole new side to it. :)

Today I think I am going to finally tryout the Blue Berry Tart that I Miss K was so kind to help me with.

Glad you like the look of the recipe. Do tell me how it turns out!

You can definitely replace pecans for the walnuts. In fact, I tend to like pecans more.
And fruit.. oh, yes, it is delicious!!!! Peaches are yummy too..we always used canned (drained off the juice), but I am sure fresh would be great too.
