My poor DH started his BBQ ribs in a foil-wrapped roasting pan at 300F at 11:00 a.m., and they weren't even cooked until about 8:00 p.m.

Hello there Alysia!

My DH always cooks his briskets for 6-8 hours but we haven't done ribs.

Yep, I'm thinking it's the oven. But, I'm going to try baking something at 350F to see if that comes out okay. If Walmart doesn't carry one, I'm sure a kitchen shop would carry an oven thermometer. One would think so, anyway, LOL!

I have a practically new over-stove microwave sitting in my garage that we had gotten just a few months before we got the Advantium. Were you closer, hmmm...LOL!

A hardware store such as Ace would have it also. The

bigger drug stores would have it.

Never trust a new oven, and even one you've been using for a while should have a (hang off the rack) type thermometer put in to test the temparature at least once a year.

I have a new oven, bottom of the line Frigidaire. I have been so happy

with the new machine. Cookies I made the day it was installed were

perfect. I've never been so happy with an oven. It was pretty funny

some months ago when dd and I were browsing a second-hand store.

I opened the door on an old oven they had, and the tot said "It's

better than ours." Now to keep mine so clean and shiny that she will

never again be able to say that.

I finally found an oven thermometer and tested the oven two ways. First, I preheated the oven to 300F, then set the thermometer on the bottom rack. After 15 minutes, it didn't register 300F. I took the thermometer out to let it cool, leaving the oven on; then set it on the upper rack. After 15 minutes, it registered 298F. Hot air rises, LOL!

So, DH (the guy with the science degree) and I decided that there is a draft coming through the vent shaft to the oven and that 2 degrees under isn't too bad. However, I'm still going to have someone come out and check it. Heaven forbid there's an obstruction in the gas line!
